Punjab keeps power tariffs unchanged, updates RPO targets for 2020

Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has decided to keep power tariffs for industrial and commercial user unchanged for FY2015-16.

Energy charges for all industrial users will remain constant between Rs 5.85 to Rs 6.33/kWh across categories. Monthly fixed charges shall also remain unchanged at Rs 157/kVAh to Rs 491/kVAh. Commercial users will continue to pay Rs 6.09 to Rs 6.35/kWh as energy charges while fixed charges will be Rs 301 to Rs 314/kVA.

Industrial consumers would face additional cross-subsidy charges between 3.67% and 14.89% while these charges for commercial users would be between 9.25% and 17.52%.

The commission has decided to update the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) regulations. The RPO targets had been earlier been announced up to 4% (solar and non-solar) for FY2014-15. The RPO targets have now been announced up to FY2019-20. For the current financial year i.e. FY2015-16 the solar RPO has been increased to 1% from 0.19% last year; the non-solar RPO shall be 3.9%.

The solar RPO target will increase every year to reach 2.5% in FY2019-20 whereas the non-solar RPO would be 4.5% taking the total RPO to 7%.
