● E-VLBI transfer from Effelsberg to Bonn and Dwingeloo

● LOFAR transfer to Groningen● Store backup at Effelsberg (2nd site)● Effelsberg part of MPIfR LAN● Stream data from telescope into cluster at Bonn

for direct analysis (e.g. pulsars)

E-VLBI at Bonn● At present 1 GbE from MPI to Géant (Frankfurt)● Doing regular file transfers between geodetic

antennas and the MPI correlator(see C. Dulfer's talk)

● UT1 near real-time correlation● Some Mark 5 units have been upgraded with

new mainboards (2 x 1 GbE on board)● Effelsberg has Mark 5A&B unit with new server

mainboard

Planned E-VLBI at Bonn● 2 x 10 GbE lines plus a couple of 1 GbE

between MPI Bonn – Effelsberg ● 10 GbE or 4 x 1 GbE MPI Bonn to Groningen

for LOFAR and eVLBI (via Jülich/Aachen)– Dwingeloo with 1 GbE for eVLBI

● Cost ~ 30 to 60 k€/y + possibly cost for Surfnet+ 1GbE to Géant (Frankfurt)

● No real-time eVLBI planned at Bonn correlator● Real-time from Effelsberg for LOFAR and JIVE

Problem areas

● LOFAR is being descoped → less than 2 Gbit/s ?

● RZ Jülich is delaying purchase of hardware● LOFAR wants money for transfer over Surfnet ?● DFN is building new POP at Bonn university

→ delays ?● LOFAR possible over Internet (not P2P) ?● E-VLBI to Dwingeloo should be fine via 1 GbE

to Géant, but no contract at present
