The National Sports Commission
started as National Sports Council in
1962, with a statutory responsibility to
administer, regulate and coordinate
sports development in Nigeria.

The National Institute for Sport (NIS)
The National Institute for Sport (NIS) was established in 1972 withthe mandate to drive manpower development in sports.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was established as theNigeria Football Association (NFA) in 1945.
The Federation has the responsibility to control and organizedomestic and international football in Nigeria.

One of our female athletes ran apersonal best of 10.92 in 100meters. No Nigerian femaleathlete has ever done this in thehistory of the Olympics.

The London 2012 Olympics markedthe climax of our dwindling fortunesin sports. Although our performanceat the London 2012 Paralympicsappeared to have compensated forour outing at the Olympics; Mr.President acknowledged the need toimmediately reposition the sportssector. Hence, the first everPresidential Retreat on Sports.

It was meant to be the biggestsporting event in Nigeria as well as aplatform for talent identification.

The Nigeria Academicals SportsCommittee (NASCOM) is the flagshipvehicle of the National SportsCommission (NSC) for grassrootssports development.
The Board of NASCOM is comprised ofthe Nigeria School Sports Federation(NSSF), Youth Sports Federation ofNigeria (YSFON), the Federal Ministryof Education, the NSC and the privatesector.
