Making a Movie from the Book
She was just a miner’s wife on welfare who stood up to gigantic coal mines, facing defeat after defeat, before a triumph she
never expected.
AWARD WINNING SCREENPLAYwritten by Penny Loeb
FINALIST 2005 Gloria Film FestivalSEMIFINALIST 2005 Monterey Film FestivalSEMIFINALIST 2009 Kairos Prize (for Christian-themed)QUARTERFINALIST 2009 BlueCat Screenplay
RAVE REVIEW from BlueCat Judge: “I enjoyed this story very much. It was written in a stark, sort of minimalist way in which I envision the people of West Virginia. We follow Trish Bragg who is caught between the coal producers, the government, the environmentalists, lawyers, etc. It seems like they all want something…You do an excellent job of showing the vibrant Trish slowly get worn down by her protesting, school, the town, threats, etc. She runs the gamut but becomes a more rounded, worldly person after it all. I like on page 72 where Trish says, "I don't like the way they done Terry. Makes him look like a dumb hillbilly." To me this line summed up the script…I would say the story is excellent and your plotting is spot on. That is, I felt that the story never sagged. Your dialogue is curt and to the point. Very nice. Overall, an excellent script to read.”

Film Celebrates Best of the West Virginia
Coalfields“As a young bride, I was overwhelmed with love from Dewey’s family. Now, I want
to protect them with the love they showed me,” Trish Bragg explains why she fought for the rights of her neighbors.

Kayla and Trish Bragg
Trish faced obstacle after obstacle with determination and wonderful humor. She persevered when others would have given up. She loves her family, her community, and most of all West Virginia. To the rest of the world that will watch this movie, Trish represents the best Appalachia can be.
With Faith in God
“The first time I saw these mountains, I felt God in their majesty.”
“After DEP stopped the mine from taking our wells, I thought I’d go back to being a housewife. But God had other plans.”
“And in the beginning as light began to shine, God made a substance called coal.”
“I asked God if I was doing the right thing. Maybe he gave me the wrong answer.”
“When Kayla was little, she used to ask why God answered me. I told her because I aggravate him so much.”

EXCITING POSSIBILITIES
MOVING MOUNTAINSHas been compared to A Civil Action, Erin Brokovich, North Country and Silkwood
Low budget movies have had increasing success at the box office, as wellas through a variety of other distribution methods.
Look at The Blair Witch Project, Napoleon Dynamite and this year…Frozen River garnered Academy Award nominations for the director and lead actress. And even Best Picture Winner Slum Dog Millionaire was directed and produced as an independent film by Danny Boyle
We plan to enter Moving Mountains in the Sundance Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival and Christian Film Festival,
as well as a number of smaller festivals.
We are talking with theatres in West Virginia and eastern Kentucky about limited-run showings.
Trish’s faith in God that carried her through tough times makes Moving Mountains ideal for showing in Churches, for
licensing fees of approximately $300 a showing.
Trish is happy to talk at churches and schools that show the movie
We are also approaching cable television channels, such as Hallmark and Lifetime.
A DVD distributor has already expressed interest.
