Laura Rody - Cozad Chamber & CDC Intern Hello, Cozad! I’m the new marketing intern at the CCC and CDC. Currently, I’m enrolled at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis majoring in agronomy and agribusiness management systems. Additionally, I’m training to become the new manager of my cousin’s farm south of Cozad and eventually will become the 5th generation of my family to run it. Whoo! It’s a full plate. This is my 2nd year living here in Cozad and I have to say I have never met such friendly people in all my days. I grew up in Lancaster, CA and later moved up north to attend California State University in Sacramento, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. Like many people in their 20s I bounced around a little bit after college. First, moving up to Montana for a position as a correctional officer, then moving down to Los Angeles to become a nanny. I actually enjoyed being a nanny so I kept at it for 10 years, the last 7 of which were spent in Fort Collins, CO. A little over 2 years ago my generation received the call that it was time for one of us to step up and learn how to farm, so here I am and here I’ll stay. I’m happy to be here and I plan on being active in the community so I’ll see you all around.

The Cozad Ambassadors were on hand at the site of the Gavilon Grain’s new concrete storage facility on Thursday September 7 to present a “Thank You for Your Faith in Cozad”. Over 4,000 yards of concrete were recently poured to pave two of the three storage bunkers. The company hopes to have the third storage area hard surfaced in the near future. According to Facility Manager, Mike Erickson, “The improvements will help us add storage capacity, improve quality and get our farmers in and out faster.” Gavilon

hopes to increase storage capacity from 3 Million bushels of corn to 3.6 Million bushels with the improvements.

Gavilon’s history dates back to when Peavey Company built its first grain facility in the Midwest in 1874. Since that time Gavilon has become an international company that provides origination, storage and handling, transportation and logistics, marketing and distribution and risk management services to customers and suppliers across the globe. Gavilon employs more than 1,900 people at nearly 300 facilities and offices worldwide. The Cozad facility employs 9-10 full-time employees all year long. Mike Erickson is the local Facility Manager and Scott Maddox is the Elevator Superintendent.

Congratulations to Gavilon and many thanks for their support of Cozad Chamber and the communities they work and live in!
