I don’t even know why I’m so...passionate about it. I mean yeah, I love the book (the series was good) and the movie just didn’t, by a lot, make the cut. It was nowhere, and I mean nowhere near the book. By the end of the movie I only found two incorporated ideas from the book: the names and the idea of Casters. But everything else, it was a total disaster. Okay, I’m going to be honest here. The movie did not just not make the cut, it felt like an insult to the writers.

Here are the top ten reasons (in no particular order since every single detail made me hate the movie equally and even more) why I hate the Beautiful Creatures movie.

1. They made Ethan look like a wimp. I mean seriously, Ethan never left Lena’s side. He fought through everything for Lena.

2. They left out Aunt Marian’s character. Okay, seriously? That job as a librarian was so important in the whole series! You can’t leave that out.

3. WHERE WERE THE CASTER SONGS? Oh so now Ethan’s mom was not worthy of making it into the movie as well?

4. They didn’t even mention Lily and Macon’s love story.5. They didn’t even mention Lily Evans Wate much.6. They did not, and I mean DID NOT IN ANY WAY portray Amma’s character correctly. She

isn’t corporate. She doesn’t wear suits. She’s AMMA! She was supposed to bake pies and be all superstitious and all.

7. Ridley DID NOT look hot at all. There weren’t any pink tops and lollipops and net stockings and pointy boots.

8. Link was cool at first but in what part of the book did Link kill Ethan? DUDE COME ON. Their friendship was the best element of the book!

9. Link’s relationship with Ridley was only about kissing. What happened to Shrinky Dink?!10. And the snow party? Where Ridley caused havoc because they humiliated Ethan and Lena

and Link became all sweet? WHERE DID THAT GO?

And now I figured ten reasons are not enough so I’m continuing nevertheless.

11. How about the part where Ethan was helping Lena out? When he grabbed the book that burned his hands because he couldn’t and shouldn’t be holding it but because of his love for Lena, he still does?

12. And the part where they get lost in the tunnels?13. And the part where Sarafine kills Ethan? And so Lena does that forbidden spell which takes

Macon? SERIOUSLY. That was one of the best parts! One of the important parts!14. How about when Sarafine tried to “communicate” with Lena during Halloween and nearly

killed her except Ethan stopped it without even using anything? Where was that, huh?15. And the big party Ridley organized for Lena’s birthday? Where Emily and Savannah became

all kind and Link’s band played?16. And Sarafine does not get killed until like the third book or something. And Lena killed her

just like that? WTF? She was the most powerful Dark Caster!17. And where was the fight they had in the meadow or something. Where Macon’s brother,

Hunting came. And all those Incubus. And Abraham and all the shit going down.18. WHERE THE HELL IS BOO RADLEY?!19. And where is Abraham? Huh? Was he not evil enough to be included?20. Where were Lena’s cousins? Ryan and Reece?21. And Kitchen? Where was...it?

22. And Larkin was not a good caster. Duh. He was pretending!23. And Aunt Del was nowhere near stable. How the hell can she look calm in that movie when

she was supposed to be witnessing thousands of different images every time she walks into the room?

24. And damn it. Genevieve did not kill Ethan Wate. She loved him so much and that was why she used the forbidden spell to revive her but it backfired. She did not turn dark like that. She fought her fate! And she just wanted to be at peace. To be with the old Ethan Wate.

25. And Ivy? What happened to her?26. And did I already emphasize that NO WAY IN HELL WILL LINK KILL ETHAN?!27. Ethan never lost his memory. The only memory he lost was when he was killed by Sarafine

and Macon exchanged places with him. He never went or even tried to go to college. He forgot all about those college applications!

28. Where was the scene where Ethan’s dad committed suicide?29. Where was Ethan’s dad anyway?30. And since when did Ethan cook breakfast? That was Amma’s daily routine.31. And dammit. There were no crossword puzzles or evil eyes or bottles or salt or ANYTHING

associated with Amma’s nature as a seer.32. And Amma is not, I repeat, NOT a librarian.33. Ethan DOES NOT draw. Golly.34. And why wasn’t Ethan dying whenever he and Lena kissed?35. And why weren’t they using telepathy or linking or whatever they called it?36. WHY DIDN’T KAMI GARCIA AND MARGARET STOHL STOP THIS MOVIE FROM BEING

MADE?

It was a horror. A major disappointment. A major horrific disappointment. I mean I probably should judge it by the movie alone but they shouldn’t have said it was based on the novel if they wanted me to do that. Even Twilight did a better movie out of the book than this one.

I hope there isn’t a part two. Because I swear with what they did to the first one, I have no idea how they’ll pull off Beautiful Darkness.
