DESTINATIONIN THE SPOTLIGHT

The GreatGreen WayIn the past four days I’ve kayaked with

turtles, spotted koalas in the wild, witnessed a platypus playing, come close

to wallabies, shared waves with dolphins, and even spotted a wedge tail eagle.

I’ve eaten sweet prawns plucked from the ocean within sight of where I polished them off with a glass of Semillon. I’ve swum underneath a crystal-clear waterfall, and heard tall-tales about pirates during a jet-ski tour around Dunk Island.

As far as road trips go, the Great Green Way – the name given to the strip of coastline between Townsville and Cairns – has enough natural attractions to negate the need for games of ‘I spy’ or an overload of sugar to get through it.

After flying into Townville, my friends and I jump on the Sealink ferry over to arguably Townsville’s ‘best suburb’ – Magnetic Island. Just a short 20 minutes away, but worlds apart, ‘Maggie’ is a place where the pace drops, you can cruise around in a topless car and there’s not a traffic light to be found.

After a sun-filled day, we paddle around Horseshoe Bay on a sunset kayak tour with

Magnetic Island Sea Kayaks. Sweeping our paddles quietly through the glassy surface and letting the current drift us back toward shore, we’re joined by beautiful green turtles, popping their heads up to check us out.

By the time a fresh seafood platter, overflowing with lobster, prawns and oysters the size of my palm, is placed in front of me that night at Blue Reef Bar & Grill, I’m seriously considering a sea change.

Moving north, this time in a fully-enclosed sedan, we soon discover why the term ‘Great Green Way’ was coined. The highway is flanked by luscious green forest, thriving banana plantations, sugar cane and coconut palms. The mountains that make up a small fraction of the Great Dividing Range tower in the distance.

The only reminder of the fear that gripped these small towns when Cyclone Yasi hit in early 2011 is a pile of debris here, a sheet of corrugated iron in a tree there, or the slight lean some of the trees now bear.

Amelia Slade has lived in Cardwell for eight years, working as the manager of the Visitor Information Centre. While it’s been a long road

to rebuild her house post-Yasi, and she is still longing for air conditioning to be returned to her office, her optimistic energy gives a good indication of how far this region has come in the last year.

“The locals love their new ocean views,” she says with a smile, referring to the beachfront – once a strip of dense greenery, now spotted with only a few Calophyllum trees, firmly rooted to their Cardwell home.

After a relaxed lunch overlooking Mission Beach at Castaways Resort & Spa, I could have easily whiled away the afternoon with a few ciders and good conversation.

Alas, we head out with Andy from Calypso Adventures who I suspect likes to tell a tall tale as he enthuses about the history of Dunk Island, pirates and all. He is headed for Port Douglas to work as an extra on the new show Reef Doctors later tonight, after all.

I’ve never understood the appeal of jet skis but now I can’t believe I’ve never given one a go.

My inner hoon takes hold as I give the throttle a good work out and my trusting passenger and I scream and laugh like maniacs as we get serious air through the section we’re told afterwards is called ‘the washing machine’.

“Fin!” my friend screams, pointing her finger over my shoulder. My heart just about comes out my throat before we realise we’re lucky enough to be just metres away from a pod of dolphins. I kill the engine and we sit in awe of this gorgeous encounter until they’ve dipped and dived away into the distance.

Waving goodbye to Mission Beach the next morning, we drive an hour north to the small town of Mena Creek to discover a wonderful piece of North Queensland history.

"The best thing about Paronella Park is that people are not quite sure what to expect," owner Mark Evans tells us after welcoming us warmly at the entrance.

The castle, theatre and tea gardens built by Spanish cane farmer Jose Paronella in the early 1930s, has certainly had to put up with a lot over the years. Fire, floods and cyclones have left destruction in their wake, but over the years as the Evans' worked their way back through the park, they have uncovered and restored a magical world.

Mark's passion for the park is infectious. To try and imagine what it was like when he and wife Judy purchased the abandoned and sadly dilapidated property back in 2003 is difficult on a day like this when the rainforest gleams brightly from recent rain and the beauty of the ruins transports you back in time.

It’s a dreamy, romantic setting and I can see why it’s a popular spot for weddings.

Sure, Yasi may have given the region a good shake up, but it’s amazing how nature repairs itself.

LAST TIME I SPOKE WITH YOU, YOU WERE IN THE EARLY STAGES OF SETTING UP A CHARITY, HOW’S ALL THAT COMING ALONG?Well, after speaking to a few people about the charity we decided not to go with it. Just the timing wasn’t so great. I come off contract at the end of next year so I’m certainly looking for a charity or something to put my face to that has the same beliefs and values that I do.

AND CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ORIGIN WIN… Thank you. It’s quite an achievement. We’ve been very successful for a number of years. You know, over the last couple

of years there’s been some hardships in Queensland with the cyclones and floods, so we love pulling that jersey on and representing the state.

YOU MENTIONED YOU’RE COMING OFF CONTRACT AT THE END OF NEXT YEAR, SO WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE BEFORE THEN?I certainly believe we’ve got a squad that can be a genuine contender for the title. It’s about getting the confidence up and if we can do that, we have a team that can definitely give it a shake. We’ve locked in some great players so the club’s moving in the right direction of achieving those goals.

Magnetic Island for the day. Having lunch there and sometimes staying the night. I love playing golf at Paradise Palms – I play quite a bit of golf there. I also love getting to Port Douglas. It’s a lovely spot to relax and get away from the pressures of the game.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT QUEENSLAND?Queenslanders are very resilient. No doubt there have been a lot of families affected with the things that happened last year and they certainly help each other out in a time of need. We certainly stick by each other in hard times. That’s what sticks out to me the most.

AND WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS CURRENTLY GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE OFF THE FIELD?At this stage I’ve been an ambassador for the Red Cross. When Origin time comes around, we have a Queensland vs. NSW blood donating contest. I don’t know this year’s results yet, but in the past we’ve certainly beat them. If anyone is in a position to do so, definitely give blood. So many people need blood and there isn’t enough to get around. I’ve donated things to raise money and I know they’re low in A+ and O type so if there’s anyone out there with those blood types, you can certainly save someone’s life with it. n

In 2008, Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson became one of the only married couples in the history of the Australian album charts to have an

album collaboration debut at number one, coming second to none other than John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Almost five years on, Kasey and Shane have recorded Wreck & Ruin, the highly anticipated follow up to their 2008 platinum #1 hit album, Rattlin’ Bones.

“Having been almost five years since we made Rattlin’ Bones we thought it was time to ‘tempt fate’ and challenge our marriage by making another album together,” the couple said. “We have both made solo albums in between, but in the back of our minds we always knew we would end up making music together again.”

According to Kasey and Shane, the writing process fell into place easier than they had planned so they grabbed a few of their musician friends and recorded everyone jamming the songs on a farm for a week.

“When the situation is right, it’s not difficult for us to make music together,” said Kasey who lives with Shane and their children on the Central Coast of NSW. “We click on that level.”

“Wreck & Ruin was born and gave us a chance to revisit the sounds of music that we love to make together where it can be traditional, but not conventional.”

Wreck & Ruin was recorded in eight days at Foggy Mountain, and the 13-track album captures each of the various elements of Kasey and Shane’s love for music – from roots to gospel, bluegrass to folk, but always country to the core.

The album opens with the hymn-inspired Til Death Do Us Part, before launching into the title track, a mixture of banjo and bruised fiddle work all purposefully built around country influences.

It’s as if the pair are stomping in a barnyard weighing up their differences, jamming in the name of revolution and taking a traditional genre and shaking it up for what it’s worth.

The album’s first single Adam & Eve is loaded with religious imagery. There are serpents and sin and storytelling that’s part fairytale and two shakes Biblical.

“There is no symbolic connection between us and Adam and Eve,” said Shane. “I don’t know if that story ended that well anyway!”

Other songs like The Quiet Life beg the question of wishing for a life away from the big city.

“That song is about our lives,” Kasey said. “A lot of people and couples can relate to that.”

“We’ve all thought ‘hey I just want to swap this life for a quiet life for a while’. It pops into your mind every now and again. I would get bored. Shane would love it though.”

“Absolutely,” Shane added. “We wrote that sitting on the back porch of the cabin and looking at the mountains and I was thinking I could easily do this instead of making this album and going on tour. I could easily sit here strumming and drink scotch all day.”

Up Or Down was inspired by a day of listening to the gospel sounds of The Louvin Brothers’ 1950 album Satan Is Real while Sick As A Dog literally gets its name from the entire family being swiped by the flu earlier this year, and ploughs through a fast, nasty bluegrass-stomp.

The new album is out Friday 7th September, and the new single, Adam and Eve, is out now. n

BEATING THE BLACK DAY BLUES: Black days are a bit like Mondayitis, only on a bigger scale. For some miners, it’s the final day of their time off. For others it’s the actual day of travel back to the mine site. Next time you are having a black day, take the time to think about how you feel (sad,anxiousorstressed)andhowyouareacting.Sometimes,evenjustnoticing your black day thoughts can help.

MINING MUMS WHO WORK AWAY: Make sure guilt doesn’t affect your parenting style. If you do feel guilty about working away or long hours on the job, offload to supportive friends and/or family to get it off your chest, rather than changing how you interact with your kids.

DON’T LET MONEY MAKE YOU MISERABLE: Don’t alter your commitments(i.e.newhouseorbiggerloanrepayments)untilyouaresurethat mining works for you. FIFO/DIDO families don’t do too well when they feel stuck with the lifestyle.

WORKING AWAY – HELPING CHILDREN TO COPE: Allow your children to talk about how they feel, and offer an extra cuddle when they’re sad. Avoid saying things like “be brave” or “don’t be silly” because they might start hiding feelings from you, thinking they are unacceptable feelings to talk about.

HELPING TEENAGERS TO COPE: some FIFO/DIDO parents feel a little guilty or sorry for their kids, and so expect less of them. Strangely enough, this can be bad for their self esteem. Encouraging and even expecting your teenager to take part in family activities and help around the house is not only good for their confidence; it’s great for setting up opportunities for communication.

SEX AND THE MINING COUPLE: If you have differing libidos, don’t fall into the trap of thinking the ‘problem’ rests with the person who wants less or more sex. Setting the issue up as one person’s problem just makes it harder to tackle and increases the tension, frustration, guilt and blame. Try approaching your differing sex drives as a team, working together to break your ‘sex cycles’.

MARRIAGE BREAKDOWNS AND INFIDELITY: If you have a strong relationshipbasedonmutualrespect,interestsandloveforeachother(andyoucanopenlydiscussanyworriesorissuesastheyarise)thereisnoreasonthe FIFO/DIDO lifestyle should negatively impact your marriage or partnership.

MINE CAMP ETIQUETTE: Get yourself clean and tidy before breakfast and dinner in the mess hall. No-one wants to sit beside someone with half the day’s work still on their overalls. n

Last issue, I highlighted five constructive responses to reasonable criticism. Here are another four, and some closing key points on the topic.

Find the Facts:If the person offering criticism isn’t being specific enough, then ask questions. It’s important to find out what the real issue is. If your boss says, “I didn’t like your last report”, then get details. What didn’t they like about it?

Admit MistakesPeople who own up to their mistakes are respected and admired. When you freely take responsibility for something that hasn’t worked out as you would have wished, you’re demonstrating professionalism and maturity. If you’re in the wrong, admit it and apologise. Agreeing with your critic puts you both on common ground and can often foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and open communication.

Learn from the ExperienceFair criticism can help us improve our performance, if we take the time to learn from it. So, spend some time thinking about what happened and what your critic said. Come up with a plan for how you’re going to fix the situation and avoid the same mistake next time.

Be ThankfulAfter you’ve gained perspective on the experience, thank the person for taking the time to give you feedback. Many people feel uncomfortable giving criticism, just as many people are uncomfortable receiving it. Explain how it has helped you, and what you’ve learned from the experience.

KEY POINTSThere’s a big difference in fair and unfair criticism, but sometimes the line between the two is hard to see. Fair criticism can help you grow and learn, while unfair criticism can drag you down.

When it comes to handling fair criticism, realise that this is an opportunity. Keep an open mind and where possible, be willing to own up to any mistakes you’ve made. Realise that the critic is addressing an action or situation, not you personally. Make an effort to listen actively and understand what they’re saying, then plan how you’ll improve things and move on. n

WHAT YOU MUST KNOW TO LOSE WEIGHT:

1. Diets don’t work. If you have ever been on a diet, you know that dieting does not work. Eventually, dieting and denial lead to overeating and more often than not, binge eating.

2. Calories do count. If you eat more calories than what you burn off through exercise and daily activities, you will gain weight. On the other hand, eating fewer calories than what your body requires will result in weight loss. Reducing the fat in your diet will help reduce total caloric intake, but only if you consume appropriate portion sizes and reduce your caloric intake. Just because you’re eating fat-free cookies doesn’t mean that you’re entitled to the whole box. Calories add up whether they’re calories from protein, carbohydrates, or fat.

I have 10 tips for successful weight reduction; this issue I’ll run through the first 5 and next issue, the remaining.

1. Write down what and when you eat or drink in a day and why. Keeping accurate food records of every bite you take can help identifywhyyouareeating(happy,sad,hungry,bored).Plus,itisamazing to find out how the little snacks add up during the day.

2. Become aware of meal timing. You may eat lightly during the day, but devour dinner and snacks throughout the evening. Experiment by eating a considerable breakfast and lunch and eating lightly for dinner. Usually, people are most active during the day, so it only makes sense to consume the bulk of our calories during this time. Some people aren’t hungry for breakfast because they consume too many calories in the evening.

3. Learn your calorie budget. Know how much you can eat to lose weight and still maintain your energy. To estimate your daily calorie requirement:

1)Multiplyyourdesiredorgoalweight(inpounds)by10tofindyourrestingmetabolicrate(RMR).Thisisthenumberofcaloriesyouburnatrest.Example: Your goal weight is 170#: 170 X 10 = 1700 calories

2)MultiplyRMRbyyourdailyactivitylevel.Sedentary 20-30% Moderately active 40-60% Very active 70-80% Example: you are moderately active. 1700 X .4 = 680 calories burned through physical activity.

3)AddSteps1and2todeterminedailycalorierequirements.1700 + 680 = 2380 calories per day to maintain weight.

4)Toloseweight,subtract500.

2384 - 500 = 1884 calories per day to lose about 1 pound a week.

4. Divide your calorie budget into at least 3 parts of the day. If you are eating 1800 calories a day to lose weight, divide your calories into three parts of the day: Breakfast/snack 600 caloriesLunch/snack 600 calories Dinner/snack 600 calories You may even want to eat 4 to 6 mini-meals throughout the day.

5. Read food labels. Be aware of how many calories are in a serving and, more importantly, how many servings are in a container!

From the moment you walk into this welcoming atmosphere, you’ll feel the heat rush over you as the ambience

of Byblos in Brisbane’s Hamilton has to be experienced to be understood.

The hues of reds, dark browns and oranges, along with the glow of pink from the huge bar shelf makes it impossible not to feel like your being warmed from the inside out.

But it’s not only the interior design that will heat your soul as the cocktails tantalise your tastebuds and menu gets your mouth watering.

First, I tried a couple of the exquisite cocktails. A special mention goes to the MiddleEastMargarita(HerraduraTequila,pineapple juice, lemon juice and apricot liquor)whichwasalittlestrongerthanthe traditional kind I’m used to – but no complaints here! Equally as delicious was theLycheeandBasilMartini(ZenGreenTealiqueur and Malibu mixed with Massenez lychee liqueur and a splash of Opal Nera white sambucca - shaken hard with fresh lime,basil,andapplejuice).

OK, time for some grub! The menu made it difficult to choose, seeing as each item

sounded more delicious than the last but theEscargot(snails)wastheclearwinnerforme, sautéed in butter with fresh coriander, garlic, lemon juice and chilli. The portion size was a pleasant surprise as I’m used to this being served in the shell and only getting around six to eight of them per portion – similar to oysters - but this dish had at least 15 if not more!

The lightly grilled haloumi served with lemon came in a close second favourite,

winning me over with its simplicity and the Rekakat(delicatefilopastriesfilledwithfetaand mozzarella cheese, chopped onion, and freshherbs)isalsodefinitelyworthamention.

Finish off your evening sampling a few more cocktails as the bar is open till late and a great spot to have a drink whilst chattering away. You’re sure to leave with the same warmth in your belly as when you set foot in the door. Enjoy! n

Recently I used a website where you can create a pre-shop list to win $10,000 and learn how researching your purchases before hand can save you a lot of money.

I was able to find the camera I wanted at six different camera stores in the city followed by ascertaining which was the cheapest – that way when I got to the city, instead of walking to six different shops and searching, I was able to walk directly to the shop and pick up my new camera at the best possible price.

EDITOR’S COMMENTMade scarier by the fact it was marketing as ‘based on true events’ one of the influences of the movie is said to be the case of missing backpacker Peter Falconio and his girlfriend, Joanne Lees who survived the attack. Falconio was never found and Bradley John Murdoch was convicted of his death in 2005.

Travellers are “breaking up their holiday breaks” by staying over at the world’s holiday hotspots on the way to or from

their primary destinations. Flight Centre Limited global executive

general manager of marketing Colin Bowman said growth in the number of airlines servicing Australia, coupled with the emergence of low cost and hybrid carriers, had opened up a variety of new holiday options for travellers.

“As the range of airfare choices takes off, travellers are finding that the conventional flight path from A to B is not always the best or most interesting travel option,” he said. “In

some cases, flying direct to the destination may not be the cheapest flight either.”

4) Paris, via ReunionSimilarly, if you’re travelling to Paris and in need of some beach time, consider Air Tahiti Nui or Air Austral. Air Tahiti offers flights from Sydney to Papeete and on to the French capital, while Air Austral flies via Reunion Island, the gateway to Mauritius and the Seychelles.

5) Rome, via DubaiWhile many travellers still fly to Europe via Asia, Emirates’ and Etihad’s rapid growth in recent years has really put the Middle East on the stay over map for Australians.

Passengers taking off from Melbourne on Emirates can stay over in Dubai on the way to or from Rome and other European and UK destinations.

6) LA, via FijiThe quickest way to get to Los Angeles is, of course, the direct route to Los Angeles International Airport. But there’s also a host of indirect options for travellers to consider. Fijian carrier Air Pacific, which flies from several Australian cities, offers connections from Nadi to Los Angeles and other North American destinations, including Vancouver.

7) Bali and Phuket combinedThese two holiday havens have long been favourites for Australian travellers.

TAKING THE KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL FOR HOLIDAYSA huge benefit of the FIFO/DIDO lifestyle

is the ability for families in mining and resources to stretch their annual leave.

For those who don't do FIFO/DIDO, let me explain. Let’s say your husband works nine days on the mine site and then has five days off at home. He takes nine days annual leave andendsupwith19daysoff(fivedaysrosteredR&R + nine days annual leave + five days rosteredR&R=19days).I'venevermetaFIFO/DIDO family who’s complained about this!

So this fantastic arrangement, coupled with the fact that FIFO workers get to keep their frequent flyer points, makes for a great excuse to take a holiday.

We weighed up the pros and cons of taking the kids out of school and decided that time togetherasafamily(coupledwiththelifeexperiencestheywouldreceivewhileonholiday)far outweighed the time missed at school.

So with that in mind, here are my tips for making the most of valuable annual leave:• Writealettertotheprincipalwellaheadof time, explaining the reason for your child’s absence from school. Forward a copy to their class teachers too, requesting any work they might miss while away. Then, of course, ensure this gets done before you return. • Chooseadestinationwithadifferentculture- an eye-opening experience will widen your

children’s horizons. • Getthekidstowriteajournalofwhatthey've been doing each day. Include rubbings of coins from whichever country you’re in, airline tickets and attraction ticket stubs of the places you’ve been. • Travelwithanotherfamily.True,thisisrisky,but choose friends who have travelled before and have like-minded interests. • Ifyouarestayingintheoneplace,hireavilla. It’s cheaper than you think, especially when sharing with another family. • Organisedaytrips.You’llbepickedupfromyour villa/resort and taken for a day of activities. Your guide will be an amazing source of local knowledge and will teach you some phrases to help you on your way. • Iftravellingoverseasisn’tsomethingyou’vedone before, contact a travel agent who will help guide you with your plans. They often have the cheapest deals too. We have had great success with both www.byokids.com.au and www.flightcentre.com.au.

Whether you’re a FIFO/DIDO or residential family, life is busy and we all work hard - so it’s extra important to make precious time for family. I know it’s a cliché, but the kids grow up so fast.

A 1985 painting by Sharon Davson recentlysoldfor$5.2million(US$5.4m)-anewrecordforapaintingby

a living Australian artist.The painting, Points of View, is a major early

career work by the artist. Sharon Davson has a solid three decade professional Australian and international art career to her credit.

Points of View was originally commissioned by Norman Hepburn for his then Central Coast resort in 1985 as three continuous canvases created by Davson. It has changed hands several times over the decades.

It’s most recent sale also places the painting third in the world by value for a painting by a living female artist.

This is causing some excitement as the sale seems to have taken some members of the art world by surprise with a few offering their opinions. However, amidst the opinions, there are the obvious statements in the media that ''the purchaser was obviously happy'' to confirm the $5.2m sale.

Since the early 1980s, Sharon Davson has represented herself through her professional art gallery and studio complexes; which are predominantly open by appointment. Thus, with assistance from her staff and agents, she has remained outside of much of the standard commercial art gallery limelight.

The owners of her art and those who have participated with her work read like a Who's Who of the celebrity and corporate worlds, yet she has maintained a rather private life.

Boyd Nelson of Whitehead Gupta Lawyers, issued the following statement on behalf of the newownerMacquarieTrusteeNZ:

"Points of View is an iconic Davson work lavishly themed with her signature jig-saw puzzle pieces, and includes subtle personal motifs woven into the expansive canvas. It is an opportune investment in this leading female artist's work.

This 1.37 x 5.5 metre (4.5 by 18 foot) painting was Davson's second major art commission.

We regard it as a significant work in Davson's career, as well as an important work in the history of Australian art.

Given the comparatively small out-put by this remarkable internationally accredited artist, and with much of Davson's art sold before being created, it is very rare to have the opportunity to acquire such a major early painting. Macquarie Trustee NZ regards the purchase price for ‘Points of View' as an excellent buy."

Internationally,this$5.2million(US$5.4m)sale places Davson third in the world ranking by value for a PAINTING by a living female artist. (MarleneDumascurrentlyholdsthisrecordwitha sale value of US$6.3 million for her painting The Visitor; a US$5.8 million work by Yayoi Kusama from Tokyo is second. Cady Noland takes the overall value record for art by a living femaleartistforaUS$6.6millionsculpture.)

Achieving the highest sales price for a living artist within a country is predominantly a male domain. Davson is currently the only female holding this title.

"I am delighted about the sale of 'Points of View',” said Davson. “It's testimony to all those who have believed in my work over the past decades.

“I trust it will also be of encouragement to women artists everywhere that in this 21st Century the ‘glass ceiling' in the arts is finally being shattered.

“I am also elated that the sales value reflects that art doesn't need to be confronting or shocking to be considered of high worth.

“It is time for works that inspire and uplift to have their ‘turn in the sun'.

collections including in the Hikaru Memorial Museum in Takayama, Japan, the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin and 40 public art gallery, city or university collections. Her art is also represented in 2 royal collections and over 60 corporate collections in Australia, the USA,JapanandNewZealand.

From 1999 to 2002, Davson’s major retrospective exhibition With Gratitude For The Light toured 14 public regional art galleries throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It showcased 63 artworks dating from 1972 to 1999. ‘Points of View’ featured in this inspirational touring exhibition.

The majority of these exhibition pieces were borrowed back from public, corporate and private collections, including the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Coro Corp. NewZealand&Hawaii,CathayPacificAirways,Konica Australia, the Rooty Hill RSL Club &

Resort, the Win Davson Art Gallery & Museum and the private collection of James Fairfax AO.

2008-11 saw another retrospective exhibition Davson ~ World Leaders & Enlightenment tour. This featured art works from 1973 to 2007 which were mainly borrowed from superannuation fund collections.

Davson currently resides in Newcastle NSW. Her art and its benefits to the immediate and broader communities are held in high regard. Davson has recently been supported as the creative leader of a new Spiritualism in art and is readily identified as a Personal Globalist. She established two charities, assisting endangered species and promoting world peace, and continues to participate in benefitting other community organisations.

Over 300 world-renowned leaders

have supported her work. From cultural, entertainment and sporting arenas, they have included Sir Edmund Hillary, Neil Diamond, Paul Newman, Sir Cliff Richard, Dame Joan Sutherland, Sir Nigel Mansell, Mario Andretti, Pete Sampras, Linda Evangelista, the Hon. Pat Farmer, Layne Beachley, Cathy Freeman, Andre Agassi, Bon Jovi and many more.

Davson was recently a significant sponsor of Pat Farmer’s epic run from the North Pole to the South Pole through the Americas as documented in his book Pole to Pole run. Pat Farmer was visiting Davson’s studio gallery to discuss the progress of a major painting she is creating as the official artist to the Pole to Pole event, when the Fairfax news photographer arrived recently. Both athlete and artist have received comments such as “can’t be done”. Both are major achievers in their respective arenas.
