Hyundai had a full range of interesting new models on display. Genesis is a luxurious, modern four door saloon. Depending

on its pricing structure, it could be a serious threat to the current top range European models.

The i40 is a very attractive looking large car, that poses a serious challenge to the likes of Audi and BMW.

SUVs are becoming very popular as family cars and as such there is a growing demand for seven seater versions, in

order to comply with European regulations regarding child safety seats. Hyundai were showing a seven seater version of

the Santa Fe, which following universal practice, they call the Grand Santa Fe.

As Hybrids are also gaining in popularity they also had a Hybrid version of their Tucson SUV. Perhaps it is the

competition from China that is making them work so thoroughly on bringing new models and revised models plus new

technology to the market.

There were also new i20 and i30 models on show.

At the start I must apologise for only havingpictures with the folding soft top erected. Atthe show I took 333 pictures, but onreturning home when I was downloadingthem onto my computer, I was interruptedduring the process and whatever I didduring the interruption I lost 199 of mypictures. Unfortunately the pictures with thesoft top down, the interior, the engine bayand the luggage compartment were all inthat 199.

In the tradition of the first and secondgeneration models, the soft top on this latestmodel can be raised and lowered quicklyand easily with one hand, even whilstdriving.

As with the previous generations thereare two engines on offer, a 1.5 litre and a2.0 litre. Both are DOHC 16v designs anddrive the rear wheels through a 6 speedmanual gearbox. I believe that there is alsoan automatic available as an option.

The 1.5 litre unit has a power output of96 kW @ 7,000 rpm with 150 Nm @ 4,800rpm. The 2.0 litre delivers 118 kW @ 6,000rpm with 200 Nm @ 4,600 rpm. As withprevious models the engine is mounted
