On 25 March 2019, Ms. Ina Willibard addressed the High School learners on preparation for the April examinations. The key questions that she focused on were: “What does it mean to prepare for examinations”? “What does it mean to pass”?

One of the motivating speeches by Martin Luther King Jr. was played. It emphasised on moving forward no matter what the circumstances. “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do keep moving forward”.

She highlighted the following ideas:

• Give yourself enough time to study • Make sure your study corner is organised • Use visual aids • Practice old exam papers • Reason with others • Organise study groups with friends • Take breaks regularly, sleep or rest, eat healthy, drink lots of

water • Avoid talking about your studies just before the exams and trust

your preparation • Pray before writing exams

She concluded with Psalms.118:25 “Lord, save us! Lord, grant us success.

HOLOCAUST The United Nation Information Centre in Windhoek (UNIC), in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and Windhoek High School hosted the screening of “Who will write our history?”

The theme encourages youth to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust, act against discrimination and defend democratic values in their communities in all sphere of life.

The theme highlights the 70th anniversary of the United Nations declaration of human rights and the Convention of the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide.

The three schools which attended the screening were, Windhoek High School, CJ Brandt and Amazing Kids Private School and Academy. At the event Mrs. Erica Pretorius from AKPSA utilised the source material used in the film to explain and unpack some prominent Grade 12 History Paper 2 Examination Questions.

*A genocide during World War II (1941-1945)

*Nazi Germany murdered 6 million European Jews

*Other groups were also persecuted and targeted such as Slavs, Roma, the “incurably sick”, political and religious dissenters such as communists and Jehovah’s witnesses and gay men.

*All victims of Nazi persecution reached a death toll of over 17 million.

SCIENCE FAIR

Scientist in making!

Science encompasses learning and understanding about objects and matter around humanity. It is all about curiosity and determined interest.

All students were given equal opportunity to present their recommended components in order to show off their talents, research capabilities and versatility.

The 2019 Science Fair had a paradigm to it as it encompassed learners from Grade 1-11. This was in a bid to showcase their scientific genius at class level and foster diversity and variety.

We had lots of fun and acquired lots of interesting facts from future scientists in the making at AKPSA.

The 25th to the 27th of March was indeed and intense three day exhibition for the learners who had lots of dun presenting their projects to the judges for semi-finals which will be hosted in Term 2 of 2019.

This is all in a build up for the huge success we intend to grab in the Regional Science Fair which will take place in the Second Term. We will be geared and fired up towards this auspicious event.

ART-TITUDE! We are able to create and make

anything we want with our teacher Mr John Kalunda. It is fun because it frees

our mind. In this session we are creating and making objects with

artificial clay.

Art is life, it is everywhere!

Hundreds in three: There are three primary colours: red, blue and yellow

that create hundreds of other colours by mixing them. With water colour paints it is able to create any colour you want.

Visiting the College of the art. In the picture on the left, students are being

motivated and encouraged by the rector of the College. Different departments was visited, e.g. music, dancing, and the visual arts studio. This trip truly excited them

and stimulated their creativity.

BIBLE DRESS-UP

The theme was “Adam and Eve after the fall” for Junior Pre-Primary and “Jacob and his

family” for Grade 0. Both teachers and children took part in dressing-up. Bible

dress-up is one of the many fun but educational events at Amazing Kids.

Education is never complete without an emphasis on, “Training up a child in the way

he should go”……

COMMUNITY SERVICE Campus 2 learners visited Hope Village Orphanage in Lucia Street, Greenwell Matongo location in Katutura on the 2nd of April 2019.

Our children are always excited to visit and donate to vulnerable children. They entertained the children with singing and dance moves that they learned at school. They excitingly related their experience to their parents who are now determined to make continual contributions in their private capacity.

All the generous contributions came from the pockets of the parents.

Nelinda Matengu

INDEPENCE DAY 2019 Independence

Celebrations at Amazing Kids

This year’s theme for the 29th celebration of Namibian Independence at the High School focused on “Okaholo”, the migrant labour system and the events at Cassinga. The theme was brought alive through the showcase of poetic and public speaking talent from the Grade 9A and 10A history classes respectively.

The Drama Club, prayer warriors and the High School choir resonated the spirit of celebrations intrinsically interwoven ideologues of an Independent Namibia.

Children were reminded that we are all made after the image of God. More so, in the new Namibia, there is no place for racism, tribalism, segregation, partiality and violation of human rights.

Learners also focused in depth by reiterating on spreading the message, “leaning on God”, especially when not strong, in need of help, above all, cherishing friends through love and mercy.

Spreading good cheer while celebrating freedom in every aspect of life.

Hello Namibian child (Countee Cullen)

Hey Namibian child

Do you know who you are? Who you really are

Do you know you can be? What you want to be

If you try to be What you can be

Hey Namibian child

Do you know where you are going? Where you’re really going

Do you know you can learn? What you want to learn

If you try to learn What you can learn

Hey Namibian child

Do you know you are strong? I mean really strong

Do you know you can do? What you want to do

If you try to do What you can do

Hey Namibian child Be what you can be

Learn what you must learn Do what you can do

And tomorrow your nation Will be what you want it to be

(Poem adjusted to the Namibian child context. The original was made during and for the Harlem Renaissance. A time when black people was moved from the North to the South seeking better

opportunities) In the spirit of Independence.

BOEK SKENKING!

Uncle Andrew’s Soul Food

Greetings to my Awesome Parents and friends!

“Be not discouraged, for the Lord will be with you wherever you go”. Joshua.1:9

While there are weighty responsibilities devolving upon you to guard carefully the future happiness and interests of your children, it is also your duty to make the home as attractive and pleasant as possible. This is of far greater consequence than to acquire estates and money.

The home must not lack sunshine. The home feeling should be kept alive in the hearts of our children that they may look back upon the home of their childhood as a place of peace and happiness next to heaven.

Then as they come to maturity, they should in their turn try to be a comfort and blessing to their parents.

May the Lord bless you as you enjoy and savour the leisure time granted you with your children.

Have a blessed holiday!
