Brochures are a done deal Ms. Alongi has agreed to follow up with the Focus initiative. Scrip continues to be an ongoing effort to bring fundraising to the school. We have several efforts in the works to enhance the program.

Teacher Report to the FFB – October 2015 Mrs. Anna Johnson (KA): KA has started to welcome the new season of Fall. Our room is transforming with student crafts and decorations to help remind us of the season. We continue to work through the curriculum. My class is very intelligent and all have awesome personalities.

Mrs. Amy Paul (2A) and Kaitlin Carlin (2B): Second grade is staying busy, as usual. In Science, we are now watching the life cycle of 4 items: a brassica plant, a mealworm, a silkworm and butterflies. The kids are excited to come to school each morning and see the changes that may have occurred with their bugs and plants. In Social Studies, we studied individual states with state posters produced by the kids. In math, we are continuing to work on place value and the kids are doing a fabulous job with the big numbers. In reading, we began writing stories this week. The kids are really enjoying being able to let their imaginations run wild as they get creative in their writing journals. Mrs. Gloria Mesick (3A): The 3rd graders are learning about the concept of multiplication. Next we will start to memorize the multiplication facts. In science we have been studying the skeletal

system. The children had fun putting together a "Mr. Bones." We will also be dissecting an owl pellet and comparing the bones of a rodent to that of a human being. During the month of October the children will be learning about saints and will be getting ready for their "Wax Museum of Saints." Mrs. Susan Smith (4A): 4th grade completed their landform maps from dough and painted them in art. Both classes are preparing Mass. 4A presents on the 7th, and 4B will lead Mass on the 14th. We are busy working on writing, and preparing to begin our study of the Northeast region in Social Studies. Fourth graders are enjoying their study of living systems in Science. Mr. Alec Clark (5B): Fifth grade just created their continent projects for Social Studies. These projects are displayed in the hallway. We have also just had our first book reports due and are beginning the book Shiloh in Language Arts.

All is well in religious ed. We had our 6th grade Bible blessing tonight, as well as a living rosary to

celebrate today's Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

I am currently in Knoxville, IA attending a training for the diocese Strong Catholic Families initiative.

Tonight I attended a great family kick-off event at the local parish, and I will participate in a parish

coordinator training tomorrow.

Have a wonderful day and a great meeting everyone! I will be available by phone if you have any

questions.

October 2015 – FFB Meeting – Athletic Report

Girls Basketball

The girls’ basketball teams have each played five games so far. The following is the rest of their

season:

October 8th

versus JFK @ Lourdes

October 12th @ St. Pauls

October 13th

@ All Saints

The tournament will begin on October 19th

for both grades at JFK.

The second day of the tournament will be on October 20th

. Seventh grade will be @ All Saints

and the sixth grade will be at Lourdes.

The finals of both tournaments will be on October 24th

and 25th

@ Assumption High School.

Volleyball

The next season will be volleyball, which will begin in November. I will be receiving more

information about this at the AD meeting on October 14th.

Lourdes is currently scheduled to host

on the following dates:

November 10th

November 19th

November 24th

December 7th

We will be hosting on November 15th

@ Assumption High School.

On October 4th

, I sent out the email to see which students would be interested in playing. I will

have exact numbers, a schedule, and who will be coaching at the November meeting.

Intramurals

Tracy Diaz has offered to work with LogoPro in creating t-shirts for the intramural programs.

These shirts will be strictly optional and the proceeds will go towards materials/event costs for

the intramural program.

I am working on organizing a track meet location for the fifth-eighth grade students to take place

on a weekend to showcase their hard work. As more details become available, I will share them

with the parents.

Open Gym

Nothing new to report.

Costs:

The following items were purchased:

A new popcorn machine

Intramural materials:

o Shot Put

o Discuses

o Batons

o Basketball Pump

o Soccer Balls

o Cones

Cookies for Parent Day in September for K-4 intramurals

Pizza Costs for Concession Stand ($90). We are purchasing from Little Caesars. I am

putting an order in Tuesday to us Scrip from Little Caesars to pay for the pizzas.

$200 to stock the concession stand

$225 to compensate for referee costs and for start-up money for admission and

concession stand

We have not had to withdraw any additional money out of the boosters account since the

beginning of the season. The start-up money and the money from the gate and

concessions has allowed enough funding to pay for extra concession materials, referee

fees, and have enough change for the gate.

Events in the works:

I have talked with Ms. Alongi and the following events are in the process of being planned and a

statement of costs will be presented to the board before sending information to parents:

1) 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments. This event would be for students in fifth through eighth

grade. Students would organize teams of five and participate against teams from our

school and possibly open this tournament up to other schools in the diocese or from the

parish. We have a lot of students participating in intramurals and in open gym and this

event would allow students to showcase their talent in front of their families and have fun

as well. There would be a small entry fee and the concession stand would be open as well

during this time. The fee would be waived for Lourdes students and would only apply to

students from the parish or from other schools, if the tournament opens up in that

direction.

2) End of the season track meet as discussed above. If there are any questions about this,

please let me know, but this is in the early planning stage.

3) Having a Lourdes race/event. We have students participating in cross country and track

right now and having a road race around the community of our school would be a great

way to showcase the talent at Lourdes. There would be divisions for kids under eight, a

middle school division, and an adult division. The adults would run a 5K and the students

a 3K with the kids race being a ¼ mile in length. I would figure out the cost of all the

necessary items and present this to the board before moving forward. I think this might

take a year to take off, but it could be a great fundraiser for the boosters and for the

school. The proceeds would be split 50-50 between the boosters fund and the school.

Timetable: Late spring/beginning of next school year as a kick off event. I am hoping to

have a budget to the board by December/January. I will also talk with the Bettendorf

Police Department about blocking off the roads for the race and will talk to local

businesses about sponsoring/fundraising a post-race party. I will present monthly updates

to the board each month on these events.

Respectfully,

Alec Clark
