Motion graphics
Dates: 3rd of Sept – 20th of Sept 2019Teachers: Jöns Mellgren, guest teacher Johanna Schubert
The aim of this course is to give you a deeper understanding of moving graphics as well as animation – how to use your knowledge of illustration and graphic design to create moving images with a purpose. The aim of this course is also to work with a client in mind. You’ll get to choose one of two assignments, described below. These will be screened at the crit, at which time you should also be prepared to give a brief oral presentation of your work.
Assignment – option 1: Title sequence for a book adaptationChoose a book from a list of titles that’ll be presented at the start of the course. Try to imagine what mood the filmed adaptation will go for. What will the director and producer want? What genre is the film? What will appeal to the target audience? Using moving images and graphic – make a title sequence that communicates the identity of this yet to be made feature film or tv series.
PLEASE NOTE: Keep the length of your title sequence at 1 minute or below – short and sweet!

Assignment – option 2: Animate ”R”, ”E”, ”X” for Rex Animation Film FestivalThe Rex Animation Film Festival will take place in Stockholm between 31 Oct – 03 Nov 2019. REX invites you to create three short animated films around all three letters that are part of REX’s brand new graphic identity. The goal of these films will be to help REX promote the festival and build its identity on Instagram. Animate the letters ”R”, ”E” and ”X” separately along with background images to create short films around the keywords ”cool”, ”playful”, ”curious” and ”provoking”. Representatives from REX Animation Film Festival will act as clients for this assignment, which means they’ll give an additional briefing during this course as well as supporting you with feedback. PLEASE NOTE: These films are meant to be used mainly on Instagram, so the format should be 1080x1080 pixels. Keep the length of each of the three films around 10 seconds.

-genomföra en kort rörlig produktion med ljud och rörlig bild med hög konstnärlig kvalitet -tillverka en storyboard och animatic för rörlig grafik -visa kunskap och förståelse för grundprinciperna för produktion av rörlig grafik. -visa förståelse för arbete med specifikationer, behov och krav från en tänkt beställare -visa förmåga att reflektera över hur ljud och bild samverkar i rörlig grafik och film -visa förmåga att tillämpa grundläggande teknik i ett datorprogram i syfte att göra rörlig typografi/rörlig grafik/animation -visa fördjupad kunskap och förståelse för om klippteknik, rörlig visuell berättarteknik, rörlig design, animation och film -visa fördjupad kunskap och förståelse om processen för att skapa olika sorters rörlig grafik (t. ex filmförtexter, vinjetter, rörliga logotyper mm.), vara förtrogen med att söka information, kunskap och stödkompetens för yrkeslivet -muntligt, visuellt och med ett kritiskt reflekterande förhållningssätt redogöra för sin egen process gällande projektplanering och utförande
