MOTHER’S DAY KITCHEN

Single mother to twin boys, Eirini loves everything about her inner-city Victorian era terrace. It has a

great location character, three bedrooms and a cozy lounge. There’s just one problem; the kitchen.

It was clearly renovated in the 70’s, when sauna-chic was in vogue - a look that has since passed its

used by date. But the problems with the kitchen aren’t just aesthetic; they’re also functional. With

the sink and oven on opposite sides of the room and the fridge in another room entirely, it’s not well

planned. Barry set to work to bring Eirini’s kitchen into the 21st century.

 

 

 

RE-SHAPING THE KITCHEN

With two little rooms behind the kitchen and a window that looks onto the neighbours’ house, natural

light has a hard time getting in to Eirini’s kitchen. To fix the problem Baz re-designs the layout of the

room. To increase the usable bench space he covers window that is always blacked out and

removes the walls between the kitchen and the backyard opening the room into a combined open

kitchen and dining space.

With bi-fold doors directly out to the backyard, not only does more light penetrate into the kitchen,

but access is now easy and direct.
