Motel 6 is a U.S. privately owned hospitality company witha chain of budget motels in the United States and Canada.Motel 6 also operates Studio 6, a chain of extended-stayhotels. The hotel brand is owned by The Blackstone Group,which established G6 Hospitality as the managementcompany for Motel 6 and Studio 6In March 2008, Motel 6 began a system-wide renovationprogram called the "Phoenix Project" to update the look andamenities of all bedrooms.Before the remodel, most rooms had colorful road-tripinspired bed covers, carpeted floors, shower curtains, CRTtelevisions and beige furnishings.Stained carpets and dirtyshower curtains were a common complaint on onlinecustomer reviews.The remodel was designed with an eye towards not onlymodernizing rooms but keeping room rates low for years tocome. Designers accomplished this by making the roomsmore energy efficient, easy to clean, and easier to keepclean in the long term (keeping housekeeping andmaintenance costs low).The remodel earned Motel 6 Travel & Leisure magazine’s2010 design award for Best Large Hotel.
