spiritual gifts but the same Spirit. There are differentformsofservice,butthesameLord.TherearedifferentworkingsbutthesameGodwhoproducesallofthemineveryone. To each individual themanifestation of theSpiritisgivenforsomebenefit.” On this great daywe recall anew life given totheapostlesandthechurch,weseethesignsoftonguesof fire, hear the noise and feel the wind whichaccompanied the Spirit. That sameSpirit hasdirectedthe church through twenty centuries with greatblessings, tryingdifficulties, but alwaysmanifestinganabidingpresence.Howtruethatisforustoday. Iaskwhatare thegiftspresentandneededbythechurchtoday.Iwonderabouttheservicewhichthechurch can provide to our needy world. I look toobservetheSpiritatworkamongus.Yes,thewordsofPaularemanifesttoday. But IalsomustaskwhatamIdoingtousethegifts I have received, orwhat service can I provide, orwhatworkneedstobedone,andifIdon’tdoit, itwillalwaysremainundone.IaskthattheSpiritofPentecostwill awaken me. Whydoyouask?”“Well,"saidhisfriend,“youhaven'tlititandcandlesaremeanttobelit".Thepointofthestorywasthat gifts are given to be used and shared, not simplyadmired and hoarded. It is a lesson that I've notforgotteninoverfortyyears. Jesusenterstheupperroom,breathesonthosegatheredandgivesthempeaceandtheHolySpirit. Hetells them to use those gifts to forgive or retain sins.Thegiftsweregiventobeshared. Evenwhengivenasmightywindandtonguesofflame,thegiftoftheSpiritwas given to be shared: “The Spirit enabled them toproclaim” (Acts 2:4). And people understood in theirownlanguages!Paultellsusthat"themanifestationofthe Spirit is given for some benefit" (1 Corinthians12:7). TherearemanygiftsfromthesameSpirit.Theyaregiventoustobesharedandnotkept toourselves.The best way that we can affirm our own giftsand·admire thoseof others is touse the gifts thatGodhas given us. We pray in today's Sequence, "Come,sourceofallourstore!Come,withinourbosomsshine.”WhatgiftorgiftshasGodgivenyouinthepoweroftheSpirit?Howdoyouusethemforthegoodofothers,theChurch,andtheworld?
