Welcome from SarahWith the autumn each year comes a surge in activity for Mosaic – we always experience a quiet period over the summer where families spend time together, then once children go back to school, the routine and reality of daily school life brings an influx of referrals to Mosaic. The office becomes very busy and fundraising and training also step-up with a view to raising money and awareness across the county. All this work ensures we have enough provisions to provide social events, our residential weekend and counselling sessions for the families we work with, then we step onto the speeding roller-coaster on the way to Christmas!

Karen ParnellMosaic Trustee
Karen works as an Educational Advisor for a Local Authority, having previously worked as a teacher for 20 years. Being a widow and mum to two teenagers, she has first-hand experience of child bereavement and the work of Mosaic. Karen is passionate about supporting bereaved young people and raising awareness of the issues they face. “Thank you Mosaic for the fantastic work you do”.
Welcome from Margaret CEO
As the summer draws to a close, we look back on a very busy few months and I would like to thank everyone who has helped with events, made items to sell and given their time in so many ways. Our first Summer Residential was a great success, especially without the need for winter clothes! These weekends are so beneficial to the young people and their parents - just knowing there are others who understand how they feel is so important. Without generous donations and amazing fundraising challenges and events they would not take place and of course, we couldn’t run anything without our dedicated volunteers – thank you. One of the highlights in August was news from the Lottery that we had been awarded a grant from the Community Fund. This will enable us to develop new areas of the service over the next 3 years. As we approach winter and Christmas, I hope to see some of you at our events across Dorset.
Best wishes,
Margaret Hannibal CEO
Rollo CliffordMosaic Trustee
Rollo was a Consultant Pediatrician at Dorset County Hospital until retirement in 2016. After a 40-year career working with young people in a hospital setting, he is enjoying spending time with children in their own environment in a voluntary role. Rollo has been a volunteer with Mosaic for two years helping at several weekends at Leeson House and other events through the year. He is now also taking on the role of Trustee. Rollo has personal experience of being a child in a bereaved family after the death of his dad when he was an infant. Since retirement, Rollo has enjoyed spending more time sailing, playing his flute, gardening and visiting a holiday cottage in Cornwall. He is married with three adult daughters and, so far, one grandson.
We would like to welcome Rollo Clifford and Karen Parnell as Trustees

This year we were delighted to be nominated as the main beneficiary for the 2019 Dorset County Show. This is one of the biggest events in the county and we were thrilled to get this sort of exposure. Fundraising efforts are continuing, and we look forward to sharing the total with you later in the year.
It was a very busy week for our hard-working staff and volunteers and the money raised will really make a difference to Mosaic.
The event began with the Annual Charity Evening hosted by Lord and Lady Fellows at the County Showground where people could bring a picnic, compete for the best dressed table and enjoy an auction to raise money for Mosaic.
Mosaic ran a ‘Wine or Water’ stall which was a great success and a ‘Needle in the Haystack’ game with a prize tractor!
It was a long day and our staff and volunteers were tremendous at keeping everyone interested in our games and the charity work we do.

What have we been up to?
Residential Weekend in July
LushLush in Poole offered us another opportunity to tour around the factory in the school holidays and have a go at making things – our families always have a great time. Thank you LUSH!
Rock Steady Music SchoolThe children we work with were offered the chance to learn some of their favourite songs and play instruments in a musical workshop. Thanks to Luke at Rock Steady Music School.
Our latest Residential Weekend took place in July while the summer was in full swing. With 14 children, 18 volunteers and some nice weather we had another full weekend of activities to help them express their feelings from crafts and candles to archery and getting outdoors. The children and volunteers worked through our specially designed itinerary of activities to express their feelings safely, remember their loved one, share experiences and build new friendships.
All these weekends are funded through community donations and fundraising, and we are very grateful to everyone who supports us.

Volunteering
Spotlight on Cheryl Bellingham I am a mum of three (nearly) grown up children and two beautiful dogs. My family are now getting older and growing into their own lives. I therefore now have the time to do something that I both enjoy, as well as an opportunity to give back to society.
Mosaic for me stood out as a Charity that supports Dorset children, so it is easy to see how the Charity benefits so many families. It supports children where someone special has died from a variety of circumstances. Having experienced the loss of an important person in my life at the age of 13 and witnessing how people grieve differently, I feel that the Mosaic contribution is vital in supporting and helping them through their difficult time.
Volunteering with Mosaic is an absolute privilege. I have met the most amazing group of people who are so dedicated to what they do. I find that spending time with the children and their families is very special and enjoy seeing the children develop when they return to the Mosaic family days year on year.
I am lucky enough to volunteer in several roles within Mosaic and so far this year I have been on both the Lush tour and the climbing wall at Bryanston School, both of which the children thoroughly enjoyed, although on this occasion I decided to keep my feet on the floor and support from below.
The Mosaic fundraising events and the work we do in raising much-needed funds helps ensure that the children who need help receive it.
Finally, the camp event, which was such an emotional and beautiful experience for the young people who attend, offers the chance to build camaraderie with others who have lost close ones too.
Thankyou !Thank you to all our volunteers who have given their time through the summer. It has been a busy season of family and fundraising events.
Cheryl is one of our Support Workers and also volunteers at many events during the year.
