Course : Mechanics of Solids
Date of Submission : 03.09.2011
Topic : SFD & BMD
1. An overhanging beam ABC is simply supported at A and B over a span of 6m
and BC overhangs by 3m. If the supported span carries a central concentrated
load of 8kN and the overhang BC carries 2kN/m, draw the shear force and
bending moment diagrams.
2. Draw the shear force diagram and bending moment diagram for the beam
shown below
3. A simply supported beam is loaded as shown in the figure below. Draw the
shear force diagram and bending moment diagram.
4. A cantilever beam of 2 m long carries a uniformly distributed load of 1.5 kN/m
over a length of 1.6 m from the free end. Draw shear force and bending moment
diagrams for the beam.
5. A simply supported beam of length 5m carries a uniformly increasing load of 800
N/m run at one end to 1600 N/m run at the other end. Draw the S.F. and B.M.
diagrams for the beam.
6. Draw the shear force and bending moment diagram of the structural member
shown in the diagram.
7. A horizontal beam 10 m long is carrying a uniformly distributed load of 1 kN/m. The beam is supported on two supports 6 m apart. raw the shear force and bending moment diagrams.
8. A simply supported beam of length 5m carries a uniformly increasing load of 800
N/m run at one end to 1600 N/m run at the other end. Draw the S.F. and B.M.
diagrams for the beam.
9. Draw the shear force diagram and bending moment diagrams for the following
beam
10. Draw the shear force diagram, bending moment diagram and locate the
maximum bending moment for the beam given below
11. Draw the SFD and BMD for the an overhanging beam of 10m length with the
supports 8m apart and an equal overhang of 1m in both the sides. The beam
carries an udl of 2 KN/m in its overhanging portions and a concentrated load of
100 KN at its centre. Identify the points of contraflexure.
12. Check whether the given loading diagram, shear force diagram and bending
moment diagram is correct.
