PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Summer is moving along quickly and I was so happy to see so many of you at the Summer Event/Movie night. This event is just another example of what makes living in Morrison Park so great. Seeing so many friends and neighbors working together, enjoying an after-noon, socializing and watching a movie under the stars is very comforting and rewarding. The generosity of our neighbors and sponsor’s makes these events possible and I feel grate-ful to live in such a wonderful neighborhood.
Please take the time to drive or walk by this year’s Most Beautiful Yard winner and the run-ners-up. The City presented the awards in June and pictures are included in this newsletter, along with the ‘honorable mentions’. Also, take the opportunity to congratulate our Neigh-borhood Hero winners – Josh and Yeni Mauras - when you see them. They are hosting the August ‘Social’ General Meeting on August 21st!
A big thank you to all of you that have contributed to the Kirwan Memorial Bench cam-paign. More information will be shared as plans are finalized and the installation date is set.
Coming up in September is the 14th Concert in the Park featuring the classic rock band “The Answer”. This is an event you will not want to miss and I for one can’t wait to enjoy the music and see the incredible ‘disco inferno’ table decorations.
Enjoy the rest of the summer! Back to school will be here before we know it!

2016 Summer Picnic and Movie Night in Morrison Park
The Morrison Park Neighborhood Association hosted our annual summer event on August 6th.
There were many activities for our neighborhood families to enjoy, with games, face painting, balloons, bingo with prizes, and an opportunity drawing with more prizes.
A large crowd enjoyed watching Zootopia on the big screen in the park, with popcorn served by the Youth in Gov-ernment group of volunteers.
The costs to put on this event are over $2000 and we thank everyone who donated money, prizes, and volun-teered their time to make this event a success. Thank you so much to these local businesses who contributed to the event:

Com-Link 2016 Neighbor Hero Award
Josh and Yeni Mauras moved to Morrison Park approximately five years ago and instantly became involved in the neighborhood. Yeni became a member of the MPNA Welcoming Committee - introducing herself and the neighborhood to new residents and providing an informational packet. This also included obtaining information and providing articles to be included in the MPNA quarterly newsletter. Josh quickly became the Easter Bunny at the Easter Egg Hunts and Santa Claus at the annual snow parties. Yeni became the Morrison Park Director in 2015. She has worked diligently to keep the neighborhood informed of any changes and keep the City personnel (Parks and Recreation) aware of concerns and requests. An example is the addition of collection basins in the peninsulas and repaving of the parking lot in Morrison Park where she reported to the board at meetings, posted infor-mation on NextDoor and met with a number of Parks and Rec personnel (Public Works, Design Engineer and Project Manager) to ensure that the proposed work was understood and the proposed changes in landscaping were acceptable to the neighborhood. She continues to work with Ron Ono on issues at the park and is able to make positive recommendations. Most recently, Yeni obtained Board Approval to have the MPNA parks closed, again, at 7 pm on July 4th to limit the amount of fireworks (legal and illegal) that have been seen/heard in the past, provide a safer environment and avoid the amount of trash and debris that is left for the City and neighbors to clean up. Both Josh and Yeni provided financial support to MPNA. One example is by providing chairs and tables (delivered and picked up) at the three events MPNA hosts each year – Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Movie Night and Snow Party. They have also hosted many MPNA meetings in their home and provided delicious refreshments many times. The August MPNA General Meeting is being planned as a ‘social event’ at their home. The MPNA board members were proud to nominate Josh and Yeni Mauras for the 2016 Com-Link Neighborhood Hero Award. The award ceremony was held at Bower's Museum on June 23rd. Thanks for those that attended in support of Josh and Yeni!
A Neighbors’ Bill of Rights I have a suggestion for the Community Branding and planning meetings. It is a city-wide campaign to show respect for your neighbors. Call it a Neighbors’ Bill of Rights. Post metal signs with the Bill of Rights on lamp posts or street signs. Specifics include: 1. Do not throw trash (e.g., food wrappers, drink cups, empty liquor bottles) on lawns. 2. Do clean up after your dog. 3. Do control your barking dogs. 4. Do limit your car’s muffler noise...not all of your neighbors appreciate the roar of a muffler!
5. Do turn down the party noise (music, talking, etc.) in accordance with the City of Santa Ana loud and raucous noise ordi-nance. The ordinance is in force at all times of the day or night at any public or private location within the City of Santa Ana. The ordinance covers more than music. Any noise pollution such as hammering late at night, dogs barking incessantly, or rev-ving up a jalopy without a muffler is covered if it’s a public nuisance.

Dick Kirwan October 15, 1925-April 1, 2016
On April 1, 2016 Morrison Park suffered a great loss when Richard ‘Dick’ Kirwan passed away. Dick was very instrumental in developing and preserving the beauty and character of our wonderful neighborhood. Dick and his wife, Joanne, 'Jo', helped found the Morrison Park Neighborhood Association and were also instrumental when Morrison Park's existence was threatened by the possible development of residential apartment buildings. The Kir-wan's led a coalition of friends and neighbors to lobby the City to preserve the park for future generations. In order to honor Dick, the Morrison Park Neighborhood Association has resolved to erect a memorial concrete bench in the park as a lasting monument to the Kirwan legacy.
The committee is working with the City of Santa Ana to have the bench and plaque installed. If you would like to help honor the Kirwan’s, donations of any size is appreciated and may be delivered to the following addresses: Eric Scandrett at 2731 Lowell Lane (slot in garage door) or Ivan Ashbaugh at 1202 W. Park Lane (slot in front door). (put "Kirwan bench" in the "for" line). The bench will cost a total of $1800 to install and $1179 has been collected so far.
Recycling will also contribute to the Campaign. Bagged, recyclable bottles and cans can be dropped off at 1202 West Park Lane, by the garage door.
Note: In addition to his neighborhood activities, being an Honorably Discharged Navy veteran, Dick, joined the AMVETS (American Veterans) Legion of Honor, where he assisted in the performance of Military funeral honors for deceased veterans.

929 Orange Road: Raul Nieto and Christina Kelly moved here in July. All their children are grown up and they love spending time with their four grand-children, ages four to nine. Christina works for IMM in Anaheim as a workman’s comp specialist. Raul is self-employed as a handy-man. They have enjoyed coming to Morrison Park spe-cial functions because of special invitations from Pastor Greg Robbins.
1033 Orange Road: Ted & Sandy Miller moved here with their three cats from Mission Viejo in July. Sandy has her Doctorate degree and works for UCI as a marriage counselor. Ted is a warehouse manager for Irvine Valley College. He enjoys doing construction and woodworking. Sandy enjoys the arts. They are looking forward to getting involved in the community.
2607 Greenbrier Lane: Gamaliel & Beatriz Santana, along with their three grown children and one granddaughter moved here from Santiago Park in June. Gamaliel works for a graphics packaging company in Santa Ana. Beatriz works as an operation manager for California Republic Bank.
2707 N. Olive Lane: John & Anna Le moved here in June. They are newlyweds and have two dogs. Previously they were staying with Anna’s parents. John works for the IT Credit Bureau as a software writer. Anna works as a Mag-navox TV distributer in Torrance. They are very excited about their new home and about fixing it up to suit them. Both love outdoor activities like hiking and biking. That is how they met.
We welcome all our new neighbors and welcome their interest in getting involved in our community.
