RECENT PROGRAMS December: Holiday Party Goodies to eat, gifts to exchange, people in festive moods all came together for our annual Holiday party.

Looking over this year’s quiz

It was so nice to see so many of our member sharing their stories. We heard about 2 Civil War deserters, a Cornwallis Ship builder, how Bathsheba tricked a man into marriage, Indians in Nebraska, Egbert of England, Ohiosville before the Revolutionary War, the origin of the Purple Heart and someone named for a street. Our thanks to Linda Mathew, Ann McCauley, Claire Kissil, Susan Simon, Bob Thompson, Joan Wadsack and Leroy May for the time and effort

they put into their presentations. Of course we also had our usual cartoons collected by Leroy and the annual brain twisters created by Linnea Foster and Ruth Daniels, the whole event being put together by our Program Chair, Martha Corson. January & February: For the first time ever, two of our winter meetings were cancelled due to ice and snow - not to mention the earthquake the night before the February meeting. become Newark and still later inland to what in 1739 would become Morris County. In the fall of 2007, descendants of these early settlers led by Pauline Lindsley visited Morris County and thoughtfully shared a copy of a handwritten volume prepared by Leonie Virginie Lindlsley Bennet recounting tales of the family that had been passed down through the generations and privately published in fourteen copies. [This book] is a copy of the correspondence that transmitted the treasured volume to each of the intended recipients followed by several selected pages that were deemed to be of particular interest of history buffs in Morris County.

Morris County Marriages

by Linnea B. Foster

The following is a continuation of the abstract of Book G of Morris County Marriage Records. An explanation of these records may be found in Vol. 6 No. 3 (Sep. 1993) and Vol. 17 No. 3 (Dec. 2004). The marriages have been abstracted in the order in which they were recorded. The name of the minister or official and the date recorded is shown for each group of marriages. The first column shows the page number in Book G; the second column shows the date of the marriages; the third column shows the names of the bride and groom and other information that appears in the original record.
