Moroni was ordained a High Priest by Oliver G. Snow, August 2 9 , 1881 . and set apart to serve as second counselor to Bishop Isaac E D Zundel of the Washakie W a r d , which position he held until h’ovember 1888 when he was released to return home after an absence of eleven years

September 25 1883. he married Phebe Maria Zundcl daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth J. Zundel in the Logan Temple , she being his second o r plural wifc She was the mother of nine children, five sons and four daughters.

He built a house and moved his family to W o o d - ru f f , April 6 , 1889. I n June 1889 he was set apart as first counselor t o Bishop T. A Davis. He labored in that capacity until April 1890 , when he was called to take his family and live and labor among the Indians again, at Washakie.

T h i s was a very hard trial for his family, as they would be the only white people in the place: the family consisted largely of girls, making it doubly hard. However, they le f t their home April 7, 1890, and took up their abode once more among the I n - dians at Washakie A t June 1890 conference of the Malad Stake. he was ordained a bishop and set apart to preside over the Washakie Ward by Dresi- dent Lorenzo Snow and he has held this position ever since He has spent more than 22 years in trying to educate the Lamanites to be industrious, to be honest, truthful and virtuous, and taught them the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ I n his words, “I have had great J O Y and satisfaction in m y labors, having been assisted by the Lord a t all times I have seen many grand manifestations of His power and might. ”

T h e Indian colony operated under this individual system under his supervivion until the spring of 1 9 0 2 , when he was again released from this mis- sion and his oldest son George Ward , was called to f i l l his father s place Moroni Ward was then made Second Counselor in the iMalad Stake Presidency h c had niovcd his t w o families to the Riverside Ward where he erected t w o homes He resided here until his death, which occurred March 16 , I 9 2 7 He was buried in the Willard Cemetery

Eliza Voss Ward was born in Rugby, Warwick- shire, E n g l a n d , February 18 , 1852 . She is the

daughter of T h o m a s and Lucy Haddon VOSS. She emigrated to Willard, U t a h , wi th her parents and married Moroni Ward in the Endowment House, Salt Lake City She has shared wi th her husband all the hardships and vissisitudes of a strenuous frontier l ife. When the call came to her t o labor among the Lamanites, she was awed as she had al- ways been fearful of Indians, bu t she accepted the call graciously.

She was a member of the Presidency of the Wash- akie Ward Relief Society for a number of years. Later she was called as a mcmbcr of the Malad Stake Relief Society Board. After moving to the Riverside Ward to reside. she was selected and labored in the Bear River Stake Relief Society Stake Board for sev- eral years.

She passed away September 24 , 1943. Her life should be a living testimony to her children, rela- tives, and friends that she has lived a consistent life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of L i t - ter Day Saints. She has lived according to its teach- ings and by so doing, has received many blessings and many have been glad to call her mother through 11 e r 1 ov 1 n g kindness to them.

Phebe Maria Zundel, the first child of Isaac and Elizabeth Harding Zundel, was born in Wi l - lard, U tah , on August 12 , 1866. A t the age of three she moved wi th her parents to P lymouth , U tah . W h e n she was about seven years of age, her father was called by the Church authorities t o establish a n Indian Mission and colony at the present site of Elwood, U tah , on the Malad River. T h e water of the Malad River proved satisfactory for irrigation, and after three years the Indian colony was moved to the present site of Washakie, U tah , near the Utah - Idaho state line.

Phebe married M o r o n i Ward , September 23, 1884, in the Logan Temple. Soon after their mar- riage they moved t o Washakie, where he presided over the Indian Mission. Fo r many years she la- bored among the Lamanite colony wi th her hus- band , teaching them the gospel, as well as the art of homemaking. While in Washakie, seven of her nine children were born , t w o of w h o m passed away while there.

In 1903 she and her family moved to Riverside, where t w o more children were born. She held the office of Relief Society President for many years, also serving as secretary of that organization. She was also President of the Primary Organization in River- side.

She was always willing to assist in caring for the sick and needy. She assisted doctors in bringing many babies into the world. No task was ever too big, but what she willingly gave of herself. Her home was always open to travelers, and many of the church authorities were given food and lodging. No one ever went away hungry. I n her declining years she pieced quilts, crocheted and did a lot of hand work for her children and grandchildren. Her words of council were an inspiration to all.

She was a devoted mother and wife, A u n t Phebe, as she was lovingly called by her family and friends, died on May 6 , 1957 in Riverside, U tah . Funeral
