The advance on the day lifted the tech- heavy Nasdaq to a new record closing high. The Dow moved to the downside going into the close, ending the session down 77.91 points or 0.3 percent to 25,734.97. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq jumped 95.86 points or 1 percent to 10,154.63 and the S&P 500 climbed 15.57 points or 0.5 percent to 3,115.86. Domestic shares posted strong gains on Wednesday, with financials leading the surge after a survey showed the pace of contraction in India's manufacturing sector slowed further in June. The headline IHS Markit manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, or PMI, increased to 47.2 in June from 30.8 in May. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex jumped 498.65 points, or 1.43 percent, to 35,414.45, while the broader NSE Nifty index ended up 127.95 points, or 1.24 percent, at 10,430.05. On Wednesday’s trading session, FIIs sold net Rs 1696.45 cr in cash market whereas, DII bought net Rs 1377.13 cr in cash segment. While the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 moved notably higher over the course ofthe trading session on Wednesday, the Dow showed a lack of directionbefore closing in negative territory. The advance on the day lifted the tech-heavy Nasdaq to a new record closing high. The Dow moved to the downsidegoing into the close, ending the session down 77.91 points or 0.3 percent to25,734.97. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq jumped 95.86 points or 1 percent to10,154.63 and the S&P 500 climbed 15.57 points or 0.5 percent to 3,115.86.

❖The ILO has warned that if another Covid-19 wave hits in the secondhalf of 2020, there would be global working-hour loss of 11.9 per cent -equivalent to the loss of 340 million full-time jobs. (BS)

❖Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said thegovernment is committed to undertaking reforms to make the taxadministration simple for the businesses, particularly the micro, smalland medium enterprises (MSMEs). (BS)

❖India plans to gradually introduce pricing and marketing freedom fornatural gas as well as rationalise pipeline tariffs to help push for agreater share of the environment-friendly fuel in the energy basket, OilMinister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Wednesday. (BS)

❖MGNREGA continues to attract rural labourers pushed into distress dueto the Covid-19 crisis triggering calls for increasing the mandatoryworkdays to 200 and raising the minimum wages under the scheme toRs 600 per day. (BS)

❖The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has started a drive tode-duplicate its subscribers’ data in a bid to do better targeting ofinsurance benefits to the private sector workers. (BS)

❖Textile industry in Tamil Nadu said that nearly 500 containers carryingapparel accessories and fabrics are stuck in and around Chennai. Thesecontainers have come mainly from China. (BS)

❖The government assured steel makers that it will take appropriatemeasures to reduce the logistics cost of products that currently reachesas high as 28 per cent. (BS)
