The flavor of a hectic earning season turned bitter right from the very start as the frontline indices took a blow as bellwether Infosys reported below expected quarterly earnings and gave even lower than expected EPS guidance for FY12 which weighed heavily on the market sentiments. Just when the resilient market looked to stabilize the momentum and form a base to recoup the losses, the government released scary March month inflation numbers which spiraled to 8.98% from 8.31% in the previous month, casting a gloomy shadow over the economy's outlook. Initially the selling pressure was seen only in blue chip stocks but post the inflation numbers market participants went for broad based selling and took profits off the t able from the midcap and small cap counters as well. The NSE's 50-share broadly followed index Nift y, settled with close to triple digit losses, above the crucial 5,800 support lev el while Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensitive Index, Sensex shaved off around three hundred points to close a tad below the psychological 19,400 mark. while the S&P CNX Nifty lost 86.95 points or 1.47% to end at 5,824.55. The BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices fell by 0.20% and 0.17%, respectively. On the sectoral front, the IT pack got clobbered out of shape and deposed 6.40% and languished at the bottom of the table because of a 9.59% laceration in bellwether Infosys. Only t he Chinese and Hong Kong's markets managed to close in the positive terrain. The European markets after starting on a positive note have turned mixed as France's CAC dipped marginally into the red zone while the Germany's DAX and Britain's FTSE 100 have managed to keep their head above the water and are t rading with moderate gains. On the other hand, t he screen trading for US index futures indicat ed that the Dow could open in the red terrain. as prices in the manufacturing space continue rising at a rapid pace even as prices of food commodities, which have been main driver of inflation till January, seem to be easing. According to the latest data released by the government, headline inflation in the country stood at 8.98% in March 2 011 against 8.31% in the previous month.  I NDEX Cl ose %Chg Sensex 19387 -1.57 Nifty 5825 -1.47 Mi dcap 7209 -0.21 Smallcap 8808 -0.17 VALUE TRADE D ( Rs Crs) %C hg BSE 3760 10.78 NSE 15127 16.15 F& O Total 127608 -3.73 Total Volume 146495 -1.66 NET INFLOWS (Rs Crs) % Chg FIIs (253) -1112.00 DIIs (361) 7120.00 FII OPEN INTEREST ( Crs) %Chg FII Index Futures 17242 -0.73 FII I ndex O pti ons 46634 -1.40 FII Stock Futures 32463 -0.58 FII Stock Options 630 13.11 %Chg Dow Jones 12342 0.58 Nasdaq 2765 0.11 FTSE 100 5996 -0.25 Commodity %Chg Crude (US$/bl) 123.7 1.42 Gold (US$/oz) 1487.8 1.83 Top 5 Movers Close Price %C hg HEROHONDA 1841 6.1 DRREDDY 1656.8 1.27 BAJAJ-AUTO 1414.9 1.15 BHARTIARTL 371 0.97  JPASSOCIAT 99.1 0.92 Top 5 Loser Close Price %Chg INFOSYSTCH 2980.7 -9.85 WIPRO 448.5 -5.06 SIEMENS 851.65 -4.35 DLF 243.2 -3.2 HCLTECH 482.05 -3.07 DATA MATRIX OF LAST S ESS ION Wor ld Indices
