Morning everyone. Today, we’ll be completing some PE, maths, grammar and English activities. None of these activities

need to be printed and can be completed on a piece of plain or lined paper.

Don’t forget you can upload examples of anything you do to the blog and we will respond or if you like you can share

Daily Reading Reading to an adult or to yourself for 20 minutes – ask someone to ask

you 3 questions about your reading from the list below. If there is no-one

available to ask the questions, choose two question starters and create

your own. Make sure you remember to answer them.

Many children are able to read and decode words effectively but are unable to answer and discuss events

in the text with confidence. Therefore, you may find that your child can read the text in his or her book

accurately but they have been given that level of text to work and develop their comprehension skills i.e.

their understanding of the events in the story and why the characters do the things they do.

When reading with your child at home, we ask that you help to support the development of comprehension

skills by questioning them on their reading. They will need to answer different types of questions which use

different skills.

The following are examples of how to word questions which you might find useful:

What happened after…..?

How many….?

Describe what happened to….?

Can you tell why….?

What do you think could have happened next….?

Who do you think….?

What was the main idea….?

Can you provide an example of what you mean….?

Do you have another instance when…?

What would you have done…?

What would you change if….?

Can you demonstrate how….?

If…happened, what might have happened in the end…?

Can you explain what must have happened when…?

Which parts did you like the best and why…?

English – Day of the Triffids – Final Chapter

Now, it’s time to begin writing your triffids chapter. You will have 3 days to

complete the chapter. Make sure to read through your plan to make sure it is

coherent and makes sense. Take the opportunity to add some more descriptive

details.

There are some WAGOLL opening paragraphs below. The first is unrelated to the

triffids and will be more challenging to work from. The others (in blue) are

triffids related if you need help getting started – try to make them your own by

using your own ideas to edit them. Also, there are WAGOLLs of some middle

paragraphs from children’s work last year.

Success criteria for adventure story: VCOP focus: Outstanding Openers!

Use a connective

After we ate lunch, I went for a walk.

Use an adverb (ed or ly)

I have an introduction that sets the scene and catches the reader’s interest. It introduces the main character(s) and describes the setting

or tells of an interesting event

I have a ‘problem’ which involves the main character(s) that needs to

be fixed

I have a ‘build up’ which introduces the storyline for the main

character(s).

I have used tension: silences, trio of three, rhetorical questions,

unfamiliar settings, uncertainty etc

I have a balance of action, description and speech

I have a ‘resolution’ that describes how the problem is solved for the

main character(s)

I have an ending which discusses issues such as what the characters

have learned and/ or what life is life like for them afterwards and/ or

what the future will hold for them

Remember when editing look for:

VCOP Have I used ambitious vocabulary, amazing adjectives, astounding

adverbs and Powerful verbs?

Have I used varied connectives to join sentences and start

sentences?

Have I used varied sentence openings?

Have I used varied punctuation?

Have I used a consistent tense, 3rd person?

Have I checked I’ve met my target?

Have I paragraphed to demonstrate a change of time and / or

place and / or idea?

Have I punctuated speech correctly?

WAGOLLs It was over a year ago that we decided to head to the Bristol and left our beloved flat

in Coventry. So far, the city has felt extremely overwhelming with the bustle of the

high streets and nightlife. Recently, it has begun to become busier as tourists are

visiting to see the latest Banksy art piece and enjoy the opportunities and attractions

that the city provides.

The Isle of Wight was our last hope but eventually, it also became the

sight of a battle for survival of the human race. What was to become of us

was unclear at the beginning but we knew we would fight.

It all began on a peaceful night in spring.......

Running to the Isle of Wight was the best thing Josella and Bill ever did.

Here was a place where a family could flourish in safety without worry of

the dangers from the Triffids; or so they thought.

Having relocated to the Isle of Wight, my life was different but better.

Each day, it had been a pleasure watching my family grow into adults who

were proud of the human race. There weren't many of us left but because

of this, we were determined to survive. Sadly, the only threat that we all

still worried about was that one day the triffids would find away to reach

us.

Dance Mat Typing Welcome to Dance Mat Typing, a fun way to learn touch typing.

There are four levels to play, each divided into three stages.

You start by learning the home row keys. Each stage builds on previous lessons, introducing new letters as you progress. You’ll soon be touch typing like an expert! At the end of each level you can test your typing speed and get a fun reward.

Why learn to touch type?

When you can do it well, touch typing is the fastest way to write. Many people quickly learn to touch type faster than

they can write with a pen. The important things to remember are:

■ Use the correct fingers ■ There's no need to rush! ■ Always rest your wrists on the desk.

You should take a rest, and shake your hands and arms to relax your muscles if you get tired.

It's important not to look at your hands when you are learning to type. The best way to ensure that you don't look at your hands is to cover them up - you can make a simple box out of cardboard or wood to cover both the keys and your

hands.

You might need headphones or speakers to enjoy the song and dance in each game.
