cn,

Each of the twelve songs presented here is a recent popular hit of “golden” magni- tude...that means they’re all psychedelic

..,Screamers or wailing blues with weird rhythm patterns, right? To put it bluntly, NO! This collection of hits can’t be classi- fied as anything but twelve tunes presented in completely different music styles in twelve music categories.

Take Chér’s beautiful treatment of the ballad, ‘All | Really Want To Do,” for example. She proves conclusively that soft, meaningful songs with honest, uncompli- cated musical accompaniment can still make it big in the rock music market. Johnny Rivers has a unique singing style, as is vividly shown by “Poor Side Of Town.” It's a completely separate side of the popular music field—a side that Johnny has rightfully dominated.

Then the album gently eases you into a sad love song mood with “It Must Be Him,” by the incomparable Miss Vikki Carr. But her melancholy mood becomes “Happy” via The Sunshine Company. Here the harmony and distinctive musical arrangement of “Happy” break the mold created by so many popular music groups.

Gary Lewis And The Playboys have always managed to remain original, not Only in the material they present, but in their style of presentation as well. Of course, everything Gary touches seems to turn to gold and “Count Me In” is no exception—Gary has set a few trends himself. | . Listen to “Buy For Me The Rain.” Is there any group that can claim similarity to The ~~ Nitty Gritty Dirt Band? There is hardly

anyone who will disagree with the state- ment that the Dirt Band is one of a kind.

Vic Dana’s treatment of “More” and Jackie De Shannon’s “When You Walk In The Room” bring you back to a soft, melancholy mood—a mood they capture so well. The musical arrangements in these two selections are particularly Outstanding. Bobby Vee has had so many hits in so many different styles that it’s impossible to tag him with any one music presentation. “Come Back When You Grow Up,” the newest member of the large family of Bobby’s hits, is another example of the amazing versatility of this great performer. When The 5th Dimension released “‘Go Where You Wanna Go,” there was little doubt that the popular music world would have to move over and make a place fora really talented group of singers...and the world gladly moved over!

There have been few hits of the magnitude of Del Shannon's “Runaway.” Not only has Del maintained his popularity in the United States, but his many worldwide tours have made him a top performer abroad as well. Mel Carter’s many personal appearances and television guest spots substantiate the vast popularity of this great young singer. “Band Of Gold” is a beautiful song that is dressed up especially well by the vocal brilliance of Mel Carter.

Although none of the songs presented here are alike, they all have the special quality that makes golden hits. This collec- tion shows that individual talent and unique musical presentations are the ingredients for lasting hits—the only ingredients.
