FUNDING BOOST FOR
SCOTSBURN COMMUNITY
RECOVERY
We were pleased to welcome Minister James Merlino, Deputy Premier and Minister for Emergency Services to the Scotsburn Community Dinner and fire planning workshop on Friday 2 September.
The Minister announced a $924,000 package of support for key projects for the community.
The Government will provide $624,000 to the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority to restore and revegetate bushfire affected areas. The CMA will work alongside the community and farmers to deliver this.
Moorabool Shire Council will receive a $300,000 grant to deliver the Clarendon Community Hub Project, located on the Clarendon Recreation Reserve in Scotsburn. The community hub will include a new building with kitchen facilities, a social area, additional toilets and amenities to cater for large community groups for a variety of activities.
Plans for the hub are part of the Clarendon Recreation Reserve Masterplan, developed by the Clarendon Recreation Reserve Committee in consultation with the community.

RETURN OF
DR ROB GORDON
Wednesday, 9 November
We are pleased to announce that Dr
Rob Gordon will return on Wednesday
9 November.

community is travelling 9 months after
the fire and preparing for the coming fire

NEW WEBSITE FOR
MOORABOOL SHIRE COUNCIL
This week Moorabool Shire Council was
pleased to switch to a brand new website
designed to meet the needs of the community
and to be responsive to mobiles and new
technology.
One of the changes you will note is that the
Scotsburn information is no longer on the home
page. You can access the information and
newsletters by selecting the ‘Residents’ section
at the top of the home page and scrolling to the
bottom of the page where there is a section for
‘Community’ which contains the Scotsburn
information —shown below.
OR search for Scotsburn using the search func-
tion at the top of any page.

After a fire it is important to protect your water
supply from contamination. The biggest danger
is runoff containing debris, manure, ash and soil
from burnt paddocks. If your dam or waterway is
at risk, a quick and simple way to help keep
your water clean is to build strategically placed
sediment fences at the inflow points. Sediment
fences made out of fabric, shade cloth or straw
should be in place as soon as possible after the
fire so you are prepared before the next rain.
The aim of a sediment fence is to slow runoff
down so that any material drops out before it
reaches the water. Large amounts of soil and
manure with high nutrient content can cause al-
gal growth such as blue-green algae, which is
toxic to stock.
It is worth looking closely at each dam and
making some assessment of what is likely
to wash into it when the first heavy rain
comes. Decide where your fences will go
and how many you will need by assessing
the catchment size, steepness of the slope
and contours of the surrounding area.
Leave the fences in place until ground
cover is established again, when they
should be removed so as not to become a
hazard in long grass. A practical ‘how to’
video on how to build a sediment fence
form wire, straw or mesh is available at:
