Moon MadnessThat the Moon influences our state of mind has been recognized throughout history. Medical staff in mental institutions have been especially convinced of this phenomenon and attempted suicides, psychotic behaviour and admissions to special care units tend to increase around Full Moon. The link between madness and the Moon has even been incorporated into several languages – the Italian phrase, avere la luna, which means “to be angry”, translates literally as “having the moon”.

Surgery and The Full MoonIf possible, avoid surgery around the Full Moon. Studies have revealed that blood flows more freely at this time of the month and is slower to clot. In fact, carrying out operations on Full Moon days has been banned by medical authorities in certain parts of the world. Since blood flow is more sluggish around the Last Quarter and New Moon times, these phases are more conducive to the healing process following surgery because the likelihood of haemorrhaging is reduced. The same advice applies to any dental work that involves extractions.

Illness and The Lunar Cycle If you fall sick between New Moon and Full Moon, your illness will normally be worse and take longer to shake off than illness contracted during the waning period (Full Moon to New Moon).

Intoxicating EffectsHave you ever wondered why the same amount of alcohol sometimes has a greater effect on you than at other times? This may be because the strength of alcohol is intensified on the day of the Full Moon.

Body ImageTake advantage of the enhancing influences of the Moon in Taurus, Leo or Libra and have beauty treatments, facial makeovers or massages. These are also excellent times to change your image, hairstyle and wardrobe.

A health regime that involves “shedding” in some way – such as losing weight, getting rid of physical or emotional clutter or giving up smoking or chocolate, for example – is more likely to be successful if it begun when the Moon is decreasing, so plan to start after the Full Moon. It also helps if this coincides with the Moon being in the sign of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius or Aquarius.
