1st Vice-Presidents Corner… Hello to all Fellow Elks,

As summer comes to an end and fall begins, we all have home projects to get done before winter hits. It is a busy time of year for most. Take a break and visit the Lodge or any Elks Lodge for some social time and a little break from it all.

On August 10th the Barre and Montpelier Lodges worked together on the Outdoor Drive-In Movie Night. Again, we were dodging raindrops at the start, but as the night progressed, the weather cooperated and fun was had by all. Thanks to Frank and Renee Hotaling (Barre Lodge) and our own Johanna Ackerson for helping to make it a success.

On September 21st, the Vt. Elks Interlodge Golf Tourna-ment will be held at the Montpelier Lodge and the Vt. Elks Cornhole Tournament at the Barre Lodge. Anyone interested in playing or Volunteering that day, please contact me or let the pro shop know (golf). These are terrific fundraiser’s for Silver Towers. We will also have hole sponsors available, $50 per hole. If interested please contact me.

Golf Notes by Scott Cameron

I need to catch up on my reporting of tournament news. Specifi-cally, I neglected to mention the outcomes in the Men’s and Women’s Senior Championships in the last column. Walt Good-win took low gross honors in Flight 1 with a score of 83; Scott Cameron shot 87, net 67 for low net. In Flight 2 Ron “Herc” Wells ran away with low gross with a blistering score of 84. Judy Ribolini had the low gross score in the Women’s division (94) but Patty Baroudi took home the prize with a low net score of 71. Congratulations to all participants for a competitive and fun tour-nament.

MECC held its Men and Women’s Club Championships the week-end of August 17-18. The weather was hot (89-90 degrees) and muggy, making it a test of endurance as well as skill. And our Club Champions are … Keith Pepin and Judy Ribolini! Keith shot a blistering 221 over 54 holes, averaging just over 73 per round of 18 to overtake early round leader Kevin Lunn (228). New comer Tyler Orton made quite an impression in his champion-ship debut, placing third with a score of 234 and signaling that he’s certainly one to watch in the future. Judy and Pam Fecteau were dead even going into the 36th and final hole, with Judy ris-ing to the occasion and edging Pam 187 to 188. Congratulations to our Men’s and Women’s Club Champions!

In addition to the Championship Flight the Men’s field also in-cluded competitive matches in Fights 1 and 2. Walt Goodwin (161) edged Sam Palmisano (162) on the 36th hole, sinking a challenging birdie putt after Sam closed out the hole with a par. Dave Hedding was third with a score of 164. In Flight 2 Carl Par-ton took low gross honors with a score of 171, followed by Scott Cameron (177) and Michael Blanchet (183). Thanks to Lynn Ribolini for organizing another great tournament at MECC! MECC Annual Calcutta – October 12, 2019, 6 pm. Tickets are $100 and entitle the holder to two meals and the possibility of winning the grand prize of $2,000! Last year approximately 40% of participants won something, and 100% of the attendees had a great time. All profits go to the Golf Equipment Fund. We really need to repair the rough mower over the winter so please sup-port the efforts of your Golf Committee and others who will be selling tickets. See Scott Cameron, Patty Baroudi, Jon Jewett, Pam Fecteau, Pam Boyd, Judy Ribolini, Lynn Ribolini and Tom Burrington among others. Tickets will also be available at the Members Lounge.

Coming Events: State President Fundraiser Tournament for Scott Phillips September 14; Vermont Elks Interlodge Tournament, Saturday, September 21. Our annual Fall Ryder/Solheim Cup fundraising tourney will be held the last weekend in

Notes from Patty Baroudi

Congratulations to Judy Ribolini our 2019 Women’s Club Champion & to Doreen Palmisano our Low Net Champion! Well done!

The MECC Ladies Invitational, an 18 hole two-person best ball event was held on August 10th. The weather mostly cooperated with only a few short showers which didn’t amount to much. Judy Ribolini & Pam Fecteau took 1st Gross. 1st Net honors went to Kathy Kemp (CCB) & Jade Blais (CCB).

The final night of Ladies’ League was held on August 28th. As happened throughout the season, rain threatened. We did manage to scramble through 4 holes without getting wet! We said good-bye to the 2019 season with a great meal & presentation of awards. Mary Bronson was the points leader. There was a four way tie for most birdies (Pam Boyd, Mary Kerin, Dee Lamberton, Louise Lapoint). Dee Lamberton held the honor of most pars & Nancy Collins received the greatest reduction in handicap award. We have a great group of women in league. Thank you all for your positive attitudes and support for the league & women’s golf!

The best tournament of the year – the Solheim Cup – is being held September 28 & 29th. You don’t want to miss this one. $25.00 entry fee benefits the golf equipment fund. Sign up in the pro shop. There’s lots of golf yet to be played – see you on the course!

September, (28th and 29th) with divisions for male and female teams squaring off for bragging rights. This is an-other fun event and raises much needed moola for our equipment fund, so please sign up and play.

Get out there and play some golf while the sun is still shining! See you on the course!
