New Book Study!. . . A Provocative Read – Mondays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Beginning the Week of October 21! The days are getting darker, the temperatures cooling down, so let’s heat things up with some great conversation on a controversial subject: the devil. Whatever your feelings, opinions or perspectives on the presence of evil in the world, demons and the devil show up quite frequently in the life of Jesus as given to us in the Gospels. All are welcome for a discussion about one perspective offered by Richard Beck in his book, “Reviving Old Scratch: Demons and the Devil for Doubters and the Disenchanted”.
In Reviving Old Scratch, popular blogger and theologian Richard Beck reintroduces the devil to the modern world with a biblical, bold, and urgent vision: we must resist the devil by joining the kingdom of God's subversive campaign to interrupt the world with love. (excerpt taken from book cover)
If you agree with Beck, or completely disagree, come and be a part of the conversation! Books are available in the church office for $16. Scholarships are available as needed. Perhaps, through this read, the Spirit may inspire you to “interrupt the world with love!”
All are welcome!

Fall Colors up at Lutherhaven! You are invited to come and spend some time up in the beautiful Jemez Mountains to enjoy the
fall colors!
We have reserved Lutherhaven Monday October 7 - Friday October 11, and can extend it if someone wants to come up on Saturday. Lutherhaven was built in 1973 as a recreational site for New Mexico Lutheran churches. After a forest fire burned it to the ground the current facility was built in 2010. There is a lodge with kitchen, meeting room, bathrooms, showers, and bunkbeds for about 30 people. There is also tent sites and a bathroom and shower down at the tent site area. The lodge is located beside Fenton Lake, about 2 hours from Albuquerque. It is a beautiful place to spend the day, or several days relaxing, fishing, hiking and enjoying God’s world. More information can be found at http://www.nmlutherhaven.com/
Call Judy or Bob Jacobson at 505 765 1406 if you plan to come up. Phone signals are weak in the mountains. If you decide at the last minute to come up call the lodge at 575 829 4465 before you leave cell phone reception areas so we can unlock the gate for you.

St. Tim’s Book Club News Becky Lee
Our next book club meeting is Friday, December 6, but we don’t have a book to read yet! In the spring, I received 17 very good suggestions (listed below) after I put out the call for books that people would like to read. Now it’s time to vote. I sent a list with a short description of each of the suggestions to everyone on the Book Club email list. Some of you have already voted – thank you! If you never received the list of books/can’t find it/are not on the Book Club email list – send me an email and let me know what you need ([email protected]). St. Tim’s Book Club meets 4 times per year – the first Fridays of March, June, September and December. We meet in the home of one of the members, share a meal, and then divide into small groups to discuss the book. The person who suggested the book is usually there to help lead the discussion. If you have been curious about Book Club, come check it out. Everyone is truly welcome, even if you have not had time to finish (or maybe start) the book!
