This month’s Speaker is:

Monthly Meetings Starts at 8p.m.
Rich Bierbauer Angelfish
June’s program will be on care and
breeding of Angelfish.
www.neo-fish.org
Hey Gang,
Well Friday night, at our Monthly meeting (one week later) we will be
holding our club raffle to send 2 members to the ACA convention in
Louisville, Kentucky. Hopefully everyone will come so we can
congratulate the winners and maybe have a second chance if one of the
two can’t go. I am looking forward to hearing the winners names called,
the smiles on our member’s faces and hearing what they have to say
about it at our July meeting.
Over the past few months we have had some real good speakers. This
month that string will continue with Rich Bierbower. Rich will be
speaking about breeding angels. He and his brother also have some of the
best orange koi angels around. Rich does a really good talk and if you’re
thinking about breeding angels, you won’t want to miss this.
Lastly, everyone should know that at 7pm the nights of the membership
meeting we hold our board meetings. Should anyone have anything they
would like to bring up to the board for consideration or review that is
the time to do it.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the meeting and good luck to
everyone.

President’s Message
www.neo-fish.org
My interest in fish has its roots in my early childhood when my parents
helped me set up my very first ten gallon aquarium. I mostly kept a few
platys, mollies, and some corys in this tank. This was the extent of my
involvement in the hobby, and really all I knew about keeping tropical fish
until my parents took me to see my very first fish room, which was
owned by Jeff Blaisdale. My interest in angelfish was created through the
many visits to Jeff's house to see his fish and to pick up a few new fish for
our few family tanks.
Unfortunately, my interest in fish subsided a little during my high
school years, but I rediscovered my interest in tropical fish during my later
college years. I set up a tank in my apartment, filled it platys, and since
that time have been completely involved in raising fish. Upon completing
graduate school, my brother Ray and I set up a fish room together and
eventually our jobs required us to each set up our own fish rooms.
My wife Laura and I then started our current fish hatchery business
Bierbower Aquatics. Today we maintain 45 aquariums (soon to be
expanded) that are primarily devoted to raising high quality orange koi
angelfish, albino angelfish, and fancy varieties of dwarf bristle nose
plecostomus. Additionally, we have successfully raised 18 other species of
tropical fish from a variety of families. The majority of our fish are sold
online and shipped throughout the country.

The Northeast Ohio Fish Club (fish) is an all specie Fish club
in Northeast Ohio. We pride ourselves in being a progressive club offering all our members not only the
normal fish club programs, but others like individual e-mail addresses, club member websites, spawning
con-tests, aquarium decorating contests workshops, road trips and more. Our goal is to make every
meeting exciting, educational and leaving you with the feeling that you can’t wait until the next meeting.
Look at our website and see if this club isn’t the club you have been looking for. If you already belong to a
club, that’s okay, think about making us your second club and come enjoy the fun.
Our website is (new) www.neo-fish.org and (old) www.neo-fish.com
As always, the Northeast Ohio Fish Club (NEOfish)
holds monthly meetings in Independence, Ohio on the 3rd Friday of every month. Meetings are at:
Independence United Methodist Church
6615 Brecksville Road
Independence, OH 44131
8:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. (Christmas Party starts at 7:00p.m.)
Everyone interested is invited to attend. NEOfish is an all species club, such as Betta, Guppies, Tetras,
Barbs, Cichlids etc. We will look to the attendees to pick out a name for the new club. Current club
members are welcome to join a second club.
The Board meets before the general meeting at 7:00p.m. at the church as well. Even though you’re not on
the board, your are still welcome to sit in on the meeting. You would not have a vote but you certainly
could share some input. Per our Constitution and By-Laws, this is also the appropriate time and place to
air any concerns about the club. It would be helpful to first contact a board member to discuss the issue
but if you feel that the whole board needs to hear it then feel free to attend.

This month we will have Rich Bierbower from Erie Pa. coming to speak on Angelfish. Rich has some of the
nicest Koi Angels I have seen and breeds for lots of orange. I have some of his fish and we really enjoy
them.
July will be Fishy Bingo, you will bring a bag of fish to add to the prize pool and when you get to pick a bag
of fish.
August will be Scott Myers on Central American Cichlids. I am looking forward to hearing Scott's take on
these beautiful large and small cichlids. Scott is a member of our club along with many others and he takes
a good deal of pride in his fish. He also shows them when he can and usually does well in the shows. You
will be able to see some of his fish this coming weekend at the Akron Show.

Raffle Committee
I have been designated the raffle guy since Jim has apparently left the club. Last month I snail mailed letters
to 10 aquarium product manufactures explaining our club and offering a spot on our web page for spon-
sors when the page is ready.
The manufacturers were:
Seachem sent us a box contain-
ing fourteen 11.8 oz bottles of
products for fresh water aquari-
um plants and marine/reef
aquarium products, as well
as two bottles of food. I also
heard from Central Aquatics,
this is the parent company of Aqueon, Corallife, Kent, and Zilla brands. They are sending over $1000
worth of products, all they ask for in return is to be sure their banners and logos get on our sponsor
page, they included attached of their web banner and logos.
I have sent follow up letters to the nine companies who did not reply. I will be sending letters to ten
more companies as well.
If anyone would be interested in taking this position over or in helping, just let me know.

Hello again we had 22 spawns turned in for
May with a fairly good selection of fish. I am
amazed every month at the results. While we
were down from previous months I suppose I
shouldn't expect to see over 30 every month.
Please consider an article for the bulletin oth-
er would enjoy reading about your experi-
ences. I will say it again it will not be graded
and Brian or I can clean it up for you.

Hello Fellow NEOfish Members,
I don’t any updates at this time.
KC
Auction Committee
Our summer auction was a success with some improvements implemented. This auction was also at
a time when there were graduation parties, weddings, and it was a very nice day outside. Through it
all, we had a small but very dedicated staff of members handling the running of the auction. My
thanks to all of them from the Auction committee!
We requested Sellers to complete an item list so they could be checked in. Since it was not manda-
tory at this time we had about 75% of them do that. For those that didn’t we used a blank form to
check in the bags. One seller had a line through one of their items so I knew I was not missing that
bag, it had not been turned in. Another seller had an item missing from the computer program but
was checked off as present during the check-in, so I added an item of similar value from our donated
items. In this way they were not shorted. So the form is certainly working to ensure we have accu-
rate records and seller are fairly compensated for their items.
Our hope with the Fall auction to have some members taking checked in items to the tables for the
Sellers. This would quickly empty the check in tables and same the sellers some time and effort.
The other improvement was the printing of a label for the Runners slips. Previously we had taken
the task from the runners and had a member completing the form which help a lot to minimize the
different hand writing. This change just took it to a new level. Thanks for the patients Bill Bilski as
he learned the new process along with overcoming computer lock-ups!
We also tried scanning the runners slips into the computer as the auction was taking place to pre-
serve their order and make the review processes easier. That worked quite well and will be contin-
ued.
There were a couple of Sellers that would have been greatly hurt by the implementing of the new
rule that any items selling for only $1, that $1 would be kept by the club. Other clubs in the area
have this type of rule in order to ensure better items are placed into the auction. We decided to
have this auction be used as a learning tool by our Sellers, so they were paid the $0.70-$0.75 for
their items selling for $1 with a note on all sellers receipts to try and avoid this happening by includ-
ing more fish or plant, etc. in their bags. Lew Carbone, when he was auctioneering did mention the
rule to the buyer in the hopes that they would consider the seller’s situation and bid $2 minimum.
And since I mentioned Lew, I would like to thank all of our auctioneers Lew Carbone, Scott Myers
and Ken Walker from our summer auction. Lew did most of the auctioneering as he stayed till the
end. Ken Walker came through even though his work put him behind in getting to our auction and
he needed to head out early to a wedding. So thanks again to the three of you for your support.
