World Views & Paradigm Shifts

What IS a paradigm? How do the shifts occur-ring challenge the status quo in many areas of our lives? What values are involved? How, on what basis, do we make decisions regarding being part of change occurring in major insti-tutions? Or do I resist change? E.g. technology, family, military, economy and church.

Session will include presentation, reflection and discussion along with using power point and you tube clips. We will address the con-cern and/or excitement and questions that emerge from and for us as we wrestle with accelerated change in our world and church.

Grief Recovery

All of us have been through many losses in our life (death, health, jobs and relationships). We have struggled with the concept of grieving and have learned misinformation and behaviors that don’t help very much.

This session will be an overview of a method of grief recovery that has been developed over the years by John James and Russell Friedman. During this introductory session many feelings that are experienced as a consequence of the death of a loved one or other significant emotional loss will be identified. We will review possible ways of working with these feelings that have been researched by the Grief Recovery Institute.

Workshops will be offered starting in January for seven weeks for those who would like to partici-pate in the actual grief recovery process. Your decision to continue the process will be made after the presentation on September 23.

How Anger, Guilt & Shame Can Affect Our Self-Esteem

and Images of God

We will explore our images of God along with our emotions. We will look at how our feelings of anger, guilt and shame can be sources of constructive energy. Integrating our less than favorable attributes (our Negative Shadow as-pects) can lead to wholeness. We learn to take responsibility for our connectedness with God and others, and claim our own individuality.

She Will Look to the Future without Fear

November 2 Marge Kloos, SC

“Illuminated by the light of this Council, we confi-dently trust, the Church will become greater in spiritual riches, and gaining the strength of new energies therefrom, she will look to the future without fear.” (John XXIII in his opening remarks of the Vatican II Council.) Since these words were spoken, what has it meant for women religious to “look to the future without fear?” The activity of the Spirit in all spheres of our life has abundantly and graciously poured Herself into deep commun-ion with our longings, urgings, inspirations, and relationships. Women religious have intentionally and regularly opened ourselves to Spirit’s penetrating and illuminating direction. During this presentation we will look briefly at the fruits of this openness, particularly those that have led to spiritual innovations, challenges and opportuni-ties as energized women of faith. Even in our apparent diminishing, women religious are evolving as relational and faithful humans who continue to “look to the future without fear.”

Marge Kloos, SC, D. Min. is a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati and associate professor of religious and pastoral studies at Mount St. Joseph University. As a member of the religious studies faculty, she teach-es courses in Spirituality, Christology, Theology of Ministry, Feminist Theology, and Christian Social Justice as well as undergraduate interdisciplinary courses. Over the past ten years she has researched, taught, and led retreats about women’s spirituality.

December 7 Christine Rody, SC

We wrestle with how much is too much, enough or too little. We evaluate what we want by questions of what we/others need. We consider our wasting or frugality in light of our world’s situation. This presentation will explore some of the whys of embracing evangelical poverty.

Sister Christine Rody presently serves as Executive Councilor for the Sisters of Charity. Other ministries Christine has been involved in are serving on the Cleveland Diocesan Mission Team in El Salvador, General Superior of the Vincentian Sisters of Chari-ty, Delegate for Religious for the Diocese of Cleve-land, and Defender of the Bond at the Cleveland Diocesan Tribunal. An Invitation to Explore Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is an opportunity to share one’s inner life in a confidential setting with a trained and trusted listener. This centuries old Christian practice is the art of listening to God together, searching for the meaning of God’s action in life, and/or deepening one’s relation-ship with God. The process is individual and personal, helping to focus on the mutual relationship between God and the person seek-ing direction. For additional information or a list of Spiritual Directors please call S. Annette Paveglio, SC (513.347.5453) or email [email protected]. Group Spiritual Direction is also available. At this moment in time, our church has been blessed with a very charismatic and prophetic leader. Lectio Divina

During Advent we will gather in the Emmaus Room from 1-2 PM on Tuesdays to reflect on the Scriptures using the Lectio Divina process – Reading the Word, Reflect-ing on the Word, Responding to God’s Word and Resting in God. No fee or regis-tration required. Bring your Bible.

“Lectio Divina means ‘holy or sacred read-ing.’ It is an ancient prayer form being re-discovered and reclaimed in our time. Lec-tio is a slow, contemplative reading of the scriptures which leads us to union with God. It is an invitation to listen deeply for God’s voice in scripture and then to allow what we hear to shape our way of being in the world.” Taken from the book, Lectio Divina, by Christine Valters Painter and Lucy Wynkoop, OSB.
