Nice Guys Can and Do Finish FirstWhether you are a diehard baseball fan or just a World Series watcher like me, you had to enjoy the World Series between the Indians and the Cubs. Two classy organizations with first class managers.Did you happen to catch Anthony Rizzo apologizingto the umpire when he showed him up by heading
towards first base on apparent ball four when the umpire called it a strike? How about asking for time out and then saying “thank you”? Or the hard slide into second base and then making sure the Indian's 2nd baseman was okay.It doesn't take any extra effort to play hard and still have outstanding sportsmanship. No one on either team talked trash, made it about themselves, or talked bad about the other team. That is the way sports was meant to be played – doing things rights, working hard, respecting your opponent, and having fun. Sports are a game and meant to bring enjoyment, sometimes we forget that in our quest for championships. While I am not a Cubs fans, it was also nice to see their fans get to enjoy a World Series victory. You have to admire their perseverance, never losing faith, and hanging with their team when it looked like they might never win the series. Sometimes around here our fair weather fans only show up when we are winning. May we all learn a little from that series. Have a great Holiday season.

2016-17 SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM SEASON OUTLOOK2015-2016 proved to be very successful for Whiteland Swimming & Diving. With records of 9-1 (Girls) and 8-2 (Boys), the student athletes enjoyed excellent seasons. With seven school record holders (Kylie Perry, Averie Myers, Kenna Gough, Josh Moody, Tad Halle, Matt Kovacs and Sam Walls) and a talented incoming freshman class, the warriors are expected to be an emerging force. Exciting new talents include Lissy Vanette (holder of the 100 breaststroke CPMS record), Gabbie Campbell, and Alex Halle (relay record holders for CPMS). To ensure that we have the best possible chance for success, the coaching staff has been further strengthened with assistant coaches Doug Hartley (diving), RichardSunkel and Niki Morrison joining returning coaches Marci Whitford (Head Coach) and Bill Kovacs. All of the athletes havebeen working hardthroughout the offseason, ensuringthat the Warriorsare ready tocompete.

2016-17 BOYS BASKETBALL SEASON UPDATEMt. Vernon (Fortville): The 2016-2017 season started with plenty of excitement as the Warriors pickedup a double overtime win on the road 75-70. Four players reached double figures as Mike Valle had18 while Riley Higdon, Brennan Neal and Aaron Gross each scored 16 points to lead the way. We are now 1-0 overall.
Head Coach: Matt Wadsworth>
Whiteland graduates seven players from a team that won the Johnson County Tourney and 17 games last season. These players contributed 46 ppg. The Warriors are expecting a big season out of returning starter and all state candidate Michael Valle. Valle has been an all-conference performer the past two season. This will be his fourth year starter in the starting line-up. Brennan Neal looks to build on a freshmen season which saw him start five games and score 7 ppg. Moving into the starting line-up for the first time will be senior Aaron Gross and Riley Higdon. Gross will provide the Warriors with outside shooting. Riley Higdon will move into the starting point guard position.
Jacob Leistner and Cole Ferguson will be counted on to provide the Warriors with a scoring presence in the post. Sophomore Noah Hale will offer the Warriors support in the backcourt. Junior Chase Bennett and Sophomore Carter Crowe will also compete for varsity minutes.
Head Coaches Quotes:“Last season was a very exciting year for Whiteland basketball. Winning our first Johnson County tournament since 1955 was a tremendous accomplishment. Although we graduated several players from that team we are extremely excited about the upcoming season. We have all dedicated many hours in the offseason to improve our team. The Mid-State conference will be tough as always. We have a chance to have an outstanding season if our players continue to play unselfish on offense and buy into our defensive system.”

We gained 458 yards in total offense. Gared Kleyn had 8 tackles while Logan Mullinix chipped in the 7 to anchor our defense. Logan Kidwell had a quarterback sack to help the cause. We now have won 4 in a row and stand at 4-3 overall.

Edwin Cisneros gained 101 yards and Levi Parks picked up two rushing scores to lead the offense. Jace Carpenter had 5 completions with Evan Hillman grabbing two of those for 27 yards. Logan Mullinix had 8 tackles and an interception to lead the defense. We are now 5-3 overall and have won 5 in a row.
Greenwood: The Warriors 5 game win streak came to an end with a 21-10 loss to the Woodmen. Edwin Cisneros rushed for 127 yards and Preston Phillips 63 but it was not enough. Ryan Hahn and Logan Mullinix each recorded 9 tackles to pace the defense. We finish the regular season with a 5-4 record overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Sectional Semi-Final vs Franklin: Eddie Cisneros rushed for 146 yards and our defense stopped the Grizzly Cubs all night in a 34-0 shut out win. Sophomore Jake Perry scored two touchdowns and Bailey Watson grabbed a TD pass from Jace Carpenter. The Warriors played with great intensity for four quarters and basically set the tone of the game early in the first quarter. Ryan Hahn and Logan Mullinix each recorded 8 tackles. The Warriors responded well after their senior night loss to Greenwood. Jacob Ballain kicked two field goals in the first half and Whiteland lead 20-0 at the half. We will now appear in our 8th sectional title game in 12 years. Overall record is 6-4.
Sectional Championship @ Columbus East: The title game proved to be a shoot-out early and the Olympians pulled away for a 56-31 victory over the Warriors. Ryan Hammond gained 220 yards on the ground and senior Eddie Cisneros racked up 121 rushing yards. Djimmon Ogega scored on a nice 99 yard kick-off return while Gerad Klyen and Tanner Milam each recorded interceptions in a losing cause. Ryan Hahn had 8 tackles to pace the defense.
