A firm variant control, a flexible integration of customer orders and a solid insight into the furniture business’ terms are the primary reasons for Montana’s appreciation of the company’s ERP-system Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) TRIMIT Furniture which supports all of the company’s processes.

”Montana is a request. A request for you to create your very own space, and in that sense realize one of Montana’s five bil-lion possible combinations: functions, colors and shapes – all realized using your creativity as its driving force,” it says on the front page of Montana’s stunning website. Five billion com-binations make heavy demands on the production and order management, and this is only possible by using intelligent IT.

”In our previous ERP-system we had 100.000 item numbers registered, but when we changed to TRIMIT Furniture from CORNATOR, it was suddenly possible to reduce that amount to 100,” explains logistics manager Jan Rasmussen from the designer furniture vendor Montana.

The background for that drastic reduction of item numbers was that TRIMIT Furniture is tailored for furniture companies that focus on variant control. The solution supports variant control in all the processes of the company’s value chain.

The five billion variants are ”hidden” behind 100 item numbers, and the system makes sure that an automatic generation of item numbers takes place. The outcome is dependent on whatever parameters and drawings the customer and sales-person fill out in the store. ”It’s a great help for our production and order manage-ment, and this was the main reason that we chose CORNATOR’s TRIMIT Furniture” says Jan Rasmussen.

When vendors of Montana bookcases sell a solution to a customer, they technically perform not just a sale, but also a design. The customer – together with the sales person – must construct the given solution in Montana’s design-program ”Montana Furnish Lite” which gives the customer a realistic feeling of his combination.”Then the order process is integrated into the heart of TRIMIT Furniture.

What is special about the TRIMIT Furniture solution is that it’s basically developed by our customers. Meaning that Montana – along with a large amount of customers within the furniture and wood industry – have con-tributed with solutions which CORNATOR has incorporated as functions in the solution. This is beneficial for other companies in the industry, who also contribute with their experiences and so forth.

”The result is a more complete and accurate solution for all parties because the developmental costs are shared among a vast amount of user compa-nies. In other words, the customers get an individualized industry solution which ALSO includes all the benefits of the standard system,” says the Director of sales and marketing at TRIMIT A/S Steen Wæver Poulsen.

Montana was founded in 1982 by Peter J. Lassen. After having worked with Fritz Hansen for a number of years, new challenges were needed. These challenges were found in cooperation with the architects Arne Jakobsen and Verner Panton.

Through Jørn Utzon’s and Piet Hein’s works, Peter Lassen sharpened his sense of forms, colors, functions and architecture. All this was materialized in an entirely new and ground-breaking idea, which is now called Montana.

Montana’s production is placed in Haarby in Funen. The production area is 16.000 sqm. 140 employees work in the sales-, marketing-, design-, product development-, administration- and production departments. Apart from the factory, Montana also has showrooms in Haarby and in Copenhagen.

The overall concept is the idea of a standard system

The objective is that Microsoft Dynamics NAV and the TRIMIT solutions cover all requirements of the company thereby ensuring customizing to be minimized. Each company adapts the system to the company by adjust-ing parameters - not by programming customizations!

TRIMIT is developed as a standard component fully integrated with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and the devel-opment of TRIMIT is following the development of Microsoft Business Solution. The objective is that TRIMIT does not replace any functionality from Microsoft Business Solution, but extend and/or improve existing functionality.

Any Microsoft Dynamics NAV TRIMIT customer is kept up-to-date by frequent updates. Each update also provides the latest in functionality from Microsoft Business Solution.

All our customers are working on the exact same version of TRIMIT. New functionality is developed in close dialog with the Partners based on the needs of their customers and then distributed to all customers by the next update. This way TRIMIT is always matching the market demands and ensures that your company always will be up-to-date.
