Imagine Monroe recently launched its new website, imaginemonroe.org. The site is an incredible resource for discovering all there is to know about our business incentives, talented workforce, premier schools, short commute time, great transportation options, and excellent quality of life.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo joined ROMOLD, Inc. President Lou Romano and the company’s first female mold-making apprentice Niayah Blair, for a check presentation ceremony celebrating Niayah’s completion of the Monroe Manufactures Jobs Mold-Making Program. Niayah is also the first woman to complete the Monroe Manufactures Jobs Mold-Making Program, and likely the only female mold-making apprentice in New York State. Monroe County Community Development division administers programs that principally benefit low-

moderate income individuals, seniors, and individuals with disabilities in suburban Monroe County. Through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Monroe County will receive an allocation of approximately $3 million to support housing, public facilities and infrastructure, and community services programs for the 2018 program year beginning August 1, 2018. This includes funding made available to 13 towns and villages for public works and infrastructure projects.

Community Development will continue funding of the very successful Home Improvement Program. New this year, the combined cash and asset limit has increased from $40,000 to $50,000, which will match similar programs in our consortium.

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo recently announced details to the new Make Monroe Home program in partnership with the Rochester Housing Development Fund Corporation. The program will address vacant and abandoned properties in suburban Monroe County. The completed homes will be sold to income eligible first time homebuyers. Through this partnership, Community Development was able to leverage funding from the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation

(MCIDC) to fund a construction trades training program with the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) for students interested in the construction trades. Students will be able to have hands-on training experience for rehabilitation and renovation work. Oversight for the program will be provided by the Greater Rochester Housing Partnership.

Community Development Success Story Last year, we announced a new solar initiative, mcSolar, as part of the Home Improvement Program. mcSolar makes solar power available and affordable for low-moderate income homeowners in suburban Monroe County. Through our involvement as part of the Solar in Your Community Challenge, we were invited to speak at the national American Solar Energy Society Conference in Boulder, Colorado in August, 2018. We are looking forward to being able to share our unique program with participants at the conference whom represent various agencies and organizations nationwide.
