Although they have no moving parts, PV panels should not be forgotten. Your solar panel system is like any other asset – it needs servicing to ensure maximum financial return..

RResearch suggests that solar systems which are monitored and regularly maintained on average perform 10-30% better than those which do not benefit from this attention.

For a 50kW system which is down for just one month in the summer you could be losing £1440

NNot only should your panels be monitored, they should be cleaned too. It may seem obvious, but the cleaner your panels, the more light exposure the cells can get and therefore, the more energy they can generate. Cleaning panels can help maintain a higher performance.

What can you do?

We recommend to all our customers that they check their generation meter weekly. The meter should be showing a red pulsing light during daylight hours.

TTake a look at your panels - do they look clean or is there a build up of residue? Sap, dirt, bird droppings can all reduce the performance of your system.

Do you check your system from day to day, or even week to week? If not you are not alone, many people read the meter once a quarter and trust that the system is generating as expected.

Remote monitoring allows you and Caplor Energy to ensure that your system is performing at predicted levels. We recommend the industry leading, Solar Log monitor, which displays your system performance in easy to read graphs and provides alerts in the case of faults or under-performance.

WWe currently monitor systems with a range of metering and monitoring solutions such as Solar Edge, Sunny Portal, Fronius, Orsis and Huawei - so we are happy to adopt any monitor you may already have set up.

The Solar Log even allows you to monitor your system in your phone, or even your Apple watch! For businesses who want to shout about the green power they are producing (and why not!) we can link the Solar Log to your website to demonstrate to customers and suppliers alike that you are an environmentally conscious company.

Research suggests that clean panels perform up to 30% better than panels that are not given the same attention.

Cleaning your panels periodically is widely recommended to maintain performance and return from the system. Over time, dust, dirt and other factors, such as bird droppings, will take their toll on your system, reducing the generation.

TTo prevent this from happening, we clean your panels with de-ionised water which can improve performance without the risk of causing any damage and therefore protecting your warranty.

We offer cleaning packages that suit your site and needs the best.

ServiceServicing your system is important to make sure there are no faults and that everything is running smoothly.

Caplor Energy will send a qualified electrician to service your solar system. A compA comprehensive tick list of checks will be completed which covers DC and AC electrical testing, cable checks, inverter fault log inspection, ensuring isolation methods are safe.

A A report will be provided with any feedback on each of these checks together with any recommendations.

Even if we didn't install your system initially, we are happy to provide repair works if required.

It is always advisable to use a qualified solar professional to carry out repair works to your solar system, or where panels need to be re-located to allow roof works to be

completed.

Wheatcroft Poultry choose Caplor Energy to install 30kW of solar panels to minimise the energy costs of one of their poultry sheds. After three years of higher than expected generation, Wheatcroft Poultry contacted Caplor Energy to keep the system performing at this high level.at this high level.Caplor Energy arranged a thorough

clean and service of the system, which involved cleaning the panels with de-ionised water (to maintain panel warranties); a visual inspection of the panels, cabling and roof penetrations; electrical check of strings to confirm individual panel perindividual panel performance.

Inverters fans are especially prone to clogging up with dust and debris, overtime this reduces the efficiency of the inverters which like any other electrical device need to be kept cool.

During the course of 2015 and 2016 Business Park owner, Toby Nunnelly, installed five solar systems amounting to over 210kWp across his tenanted units. Tenants receive clean, green power fixed at an agreed price while Mr Nunnelly increases the value of his prproperty income.

In the summer of 2016 Mr Nunnelly noticed that following a power cut one of his systems had tripped off, unfortunately the system was down for some time before it was noticed, this resulted in lost income amounting to several hundred pounds.

There are many innovative ways to manage your PV system more effectively with innovative add-on products that integrate the energy you’re producing with other devices.

An An energy storage system will save your excess renewable energy in a battery instead of feeding it back to the grid. This means you are able to use your renewable energy as and when you need it, and not only when it is being generated, therefore, maximising the self-consumption of your solar PV system.
