1. Introduction
This study aims to access Nurse Practitioners’ perceptions of their impact on
primary health care and how their contribution to the health service industry
influences the quality of patient care.
2. Research Aims and Outcomes
The study will take the form of empirical research. Due to the constraints of
the size of this small qualitative study, the sample roup of interviewees will provide
data which will be limited to the perceptions of these interviewees.
The aim of this research study is to assess Nurse Practitioner’s perceptions of
primary health care in the !nited "indom with a view to their contribution to the
health service industry and whether in their view, this has any impact on the quality
of service delivery in patient care. These aims will be operationalised by means of
the followin specific ob#ectives$
i. to identify whether the Nurse Practitioner can provide the equivalent
quality of care to doctors within primary health care in the !"ii. to identify the perceptions of what impact their role as health care
providers has on primary health care in the !"iii. to identify and e%amine the challenes which Nurse Practitioners
face reardin service delivery in patient care
iv. to identify the impact Nurse Practitioners have on the Practice theywork within
a. patient numbersb. financial implications
&rom e%aminin the data enerated by this research, it is hoped that the outcome of
this study will shed liht on possible aps in the public health services.
3. Empirical Research Design

This research will be based on ' to ( semi)structured questionnaires with nurse
practitioners and practise manaers, to be identified throuh a selected *P Practise
professional network. The questionnaires will be emailed to the practise manaer
and will be conducted as an anonyms serve and data will be collected via post.
+n addition to primary data obtained from questionnaires, secondary data will
be sourced from a literature study and other internet resources. The ma#ority of the
literature used in this study will be retrieved from research findins, overnment
aencies, trade associations and other oranizations that have conducted studies on
the same sub#ect area. +n addition, peer)reviewed #ournals such as -T/,
0cademic -earch Premier and 1usiness -ource Premier, will be helpful in e%plorin
the topic under study. The technique employed in findin these #ournals, studies and
information will include usin key search criteria associated with the topic in the
reconized websites and databases.

4. Selection o sur!e" Participants

#. Ethical $onsiderations
The structured questionnaires allow individuals to disclosethouhts and feelins which are clearly pri vate. This method relies on theob#ectivity of the reader. These qualities are valuable, but ethically verysensitive.
Participants will therefore be required to sin consent at the end of each
questionnaire in addition to this the introduction of the survey will e%plain that$
• -hould the study participant choose to withdraw from the study, they may
choose to do so without providin a reason.
• The identities of the participants will remain anonymous and not be disclosed
in the study and that their words will also be used anonymously.

+n terms of the time frame of the study, it should be taken into consideration
that qualitative research interviews are both time consumin and resource intensive.
1etween work and family, research and study time is e%tremely limited for me.7owever, my schedule will open up in the ensuin few months ahead and this should
allow for intensive study in terms of independent research, interviewin and the
e%trapolation of data collected. + have already established contact with a few
potential interviewees + intend usin in the study and have conducted preliminary
dialoue. Therefore, should the interview template be approved, + can utilise the New
8ear leadin up to the 9:th of anuary, in order to conclude the interviews.
