To Whom it May Concern: I would like to formally recommend Monica Gonzalez for SMU | Meadows School for the Arts Graduate Program. As a Senior Regional Manager at the AroundCampus Group (AC), I had the pleasure of supervising Monica in our outside sales internship program from May 15 2016 July 18th 2016. I personally selected Monica out of 10,000 applicants to be one of 750 sales interns in our nationally recognized program. In my three years in this position, I have managed over 150 students and have not seen a single student rival her dedication to both her professional development, but more importantly, her teams professional development as well. She truly is an absolutely incredible individual and I am blessed to have the opportunity to have been her mentor throughout her experience with AC. Monica performed exceptionally well in our challenging internship program, demonstrating her ability to develop, implement, and fine-tune a strategic business plan. At the time of completion, Monica finished #1 in a region of 56 individuals, as well as #1 out of 750 students in the nation, selling over $30,000 in advertisements while the average intern sold $6,000. Such results would not have been possible without Monica’s determination to exceed expectations and problem-solve on her feet. Accompanying Monica on numerous sales calls, I observed her exceptional ability to build rapport and credibility with customers. Business owners and decision makers responded well to her affable nature and polished sales presentation style. She was able to instantly connect with her customers through her curiosity and hunger for knowledge after showing that she took initiative to research businesses and truly help them achieve their goals while showing sincere passion for connecting the SMU Campus to the local community. Monica also proved to be a strong leader on many occasions. As the SMU Sales Team Leader, she was able to lead her team of 5 SMU Students to their sales goal of $105,000 ranking #1/250 teams in the nation. Her one goal in our internship was to grow as a leader as she hadn’t had leadership experiences in the past, however, the truth is that Monica is a natural leader and will continue to change the lives of the people that surround her. Further, Monica was a team player who made every effort to support her fellow sales representatives. On top of her already busy scheduled, Monica made it a point to meet with her teammates and accompany them on their meetings to serve as a Coach and peer Mentor. Truly an I was highly impressed with Monica’s willingness to learn from her mistakes and accept constructive criticism. At the outset, for example, Monica was so eager to close sales that she hadn’t taken the time to ask questions and build rapport. After experiencing days of consistent failure and the fear that she would never make a sale, Monica called me to walk through the various clients she had been working with and what seemed to be a quick question, turned out to be an hour long conversation on how she can improve. Since that day, Monica took off and has never shied away from the opportunity to learn. Having witnessed Monicas passion for sales, marketing, and business leadership throughout the summer, it comes as no surprise that she wishes to complete her Masters and ultimately pursue a career in business. Considering Monica’s strengths described here, I have no doubt that she will excel in the rigorous environment of Meadows School of Arts and contribute positively to your program and your institution.
