would like to try something new or bring whatever your favorite dish is to share.Beverages and place settings will be provided. Ruth, a graduate of HFCS and her

husband Chuck have served as missionaries in Thailand for many years working

with the Akha hill tribe people in the Chiang Rai area. They have been instrumental

n starting an international school to meet the growing needs of the community of

Chiang Rai. They are bringing with them many craft items made by the ladies of

hat area as a means of employment and to teach them of Christ’s love. The

handcraft program helps keep them out of prostitution, provides support for their

hildren’s educational needs, and encourages them in their traditional arts. So come

prepared to do some early Christmas Shopping! Great gift ideas.

This event will be held at the First Baptist Church on 80 Main St., Hoosick Falls. If

you have any questions you may phone 686-7737.

    MY THOUGHTS

    by John L Jefferson

This is the final installment of a

multi-part series. Over the courseof my research regarding this story

it has become evident that Allco has little interest in con-

servation and sees Vermont as an opportunity to grab a

large bounty with little to stand in their way. Allco has used

solar power as a convenient way to make a pile of cash,

not because they care about our planet. The Melone’s con-

nections to the likes of Monsanto, Goldman Sachs, and JP

Morgan Chase are troubling. For many capitalists, like the

Melone’s, the earth is nothing more than a resource to

pillage for their financial gain. The State of Vermont and

the Shumlin administration have empowered companies

like Allco to come into our beautiful state and carve it up

as they see fit. In response, the people of Vermont have

stood up. Whether solar or wind power, numerous projects

throughout the state have met resistance from Vermont-

ers. It is encouraging to now see the citizens of Benningtonstanding up against a powerful company and opposing a

scar upon our beautiful landscape. When a renewable en-

ergy project near his Martha’s Vineyard summer home

began to take shape, Allco’s chief executive, Thomas

Melone, sued Massachusetts fearing it would alter the “di-

rect viewscape” from his property and in turn decrease its

value. However, when the landscape being abused produces

him financial gain and is not one close to his heart, any

project is fair game. When the citizens who cherish their

landscape stand up in opposition they are belittled and bul-

lied by Allco and when a governing body stands up to them,

they face litigation. Allco has already sued the states of

Vermont, Connecticut, California, Massachusetts, and nu-

merous cities. When the courts don’t rule in their favor,

which is often the case, they appeal relentlessly. The town

of Bennington may be in line for Allco’s next lawsuit. As

one Benningtonian put it, this is a case of “Wall Streethitmen who take no solar prisoners,” and I couldn’t say it

    any better myself.

    WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN!

“We The People..”  are the backbone, skeleton, flesh and blood of this

great country. Our government is simply a tool that allows us to achieve

our goals in a civilized and organized manner.

September 11, 2001 proved to us and the world that when the chips are

down it is individuals who make a difference. To us, “hero” is a term

more appropriately attributed to the actions of Todd Beamer, Thomas E

Burnett, Jr, Jeremy Glick and Mark Bingham, the people who took it

upon themselves to take down United Flight #93, fully aware of the con-

sequences. But, they did it, and in so doing, saved countless lives. Indi-

viduals like these men are the ones who have built this country and made

it great. They didn’t wait for any directive from a government agency.

They didn’t beg for help or anguish over what they knew they had to do.

They simply did it, and in doing so the terrorists were denied.

    So, never forget!

It is during times like these that many of us feel that our contributions are inadequate or not important. But, every effort we make on our own behalf or on behalf

of others solidifies the foundation upon which our system of government sits. It is not the politicians, nor the media pundits, nor the bureaucracies that make this

country great. No.. it’s we, the people. Celebrate our freedoms, and be vigilant so that we don’t lose them.
