THE SAVE THE WALL PROJECT is part of the BkC's Cor-ridor Connection Project. The Battenkill Conservancy and BoyScout Troop 127 with the help of various local organizations andmunicipal entities including Country Power Products, MiddleFalls Storage and the adjoining landowners are planning to un-dertake the "Save the Wall" Project. The project's focus is thehistoric, dry-laid stone wall that hugs the sidewalk along Route29 in Middle Falls. The wall has been steadily deteriorating dueto overgrown brush and invasive knotweed and is a pervasive"eyesore" when entering Greenwich. The "Save the Wall" project
is being organized in conjunction with BkC's Corridor Connec-tions Project that is looking to improve pedestrian and cyclingconnections between key sites along the Battenkill. Two of theCorridor Connection sites, the Middle Falls Canoe & KayakLaunch and the Tailrace Fishing Trail are located just down theroad where Rt 29 crosses over the Battenkill. Increasing publicawareness and improving access to these sites is part to project'sobjective. Over the past few months, Boy Scout Troop 127 hasbeen active in a number of community improvement projects in-cluding taking part in BkC's "Give Back by Taking Out" rivercleanup. In addition to the Boy Scouts, local highway depart-ments and the NYS Department of Transportation are discussinghow they might be able to assist with the project. Millie andJohn Reiger of Country Power Products have also expressed awillingness to help with providing some of the necessary garden-ing tools to the scouts. The hope is that the brush clean up willbe the first step in fully restoring the long standing historic stonewall. The initial work on the "Save the Wall" project is sched-uled to take place on Saturday, Nov 7th. Anyone interested inlending a hand, supporting the work or getting involved in theproject is encouraged to email [email protected]
or simply drop by the site on Nov 7.
