Environmental economic theory has useful insights on the design of environmental policy. Its applicability to prac- tical policymaking is crucial in managing the significant sustainability challenges outlined by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To do this we need to strenghten the role of environmental economics in policy making and the link between research on the design and implementation of environmental policy. WCERE 2018 gives a perfect opportunity to do this! “Supply and Demand of Environmental Economics Policy Advice”

Welcome to a panel discussion focusing on the barriers and facilitators for both the supply and demand for environmental economic policy advice. Get inspired by insights from highly experienced international experts, academics and practition-ers from various fields in environmental economics, discussing: How to facilitate evidence-based policy and narrowing the gap between the academia and policymakers?

Environmental economic theory has useful insights on the design of environmental policy. Its applicability to prac-tical policymaking is crucial in managing the significant sustainability challenges outlined by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To do this we need to strenghten the role of environmental economics in policy making and the link between research on the design and implementation of environmental policy. Pre-conference Workshops

Using practitioners’ questions as a starting point the workshops bring together leading international experts, academics and practitioners from various environmental economics fields with the overall aim to produce useful policy advice for internal and external communication within the agencies.

In preparation for the pre-conference workshops, practitioners at agencies and organizations formulated questions connected to environmental economic policies. These questions make up the base for the work-shops. A workshop consists of around ten people with at least one practitioner whom has put forward a demand for a specific environmental economics advice. Further, the practitioners are committed to bring advice forward to their respective agency. Each workshop has a designated chair with the responsibility for both preparatory work and leading the discussion during the workshop.
