Lent starts on Ash Wednesday in western Christian churches and climaxes during Easter Week. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week. During the 40 days of Lent, Christians remember the time when Jesus went into the desert to fast and pray before beginning his work for God. Many Christians commit to fasting, as well as giving up certain luxuries in order to replicate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ's journey into the desert for 40 days.

Our mission: St. Ambrose Forever is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization whose goal is to create a self-sustaining endowment fund with all monies dedicated solely to preserving the longevity of St. Ambrose Catholic School.

The St. Ambrose Forever Foundation (STAF) is proud to provide financial assistance through scholarships awarded to students of St. Ambrose Catholic School. Each year St. Ambrose Forever Foundation accepts applications starting on February 21st with a deadline of March 31st. The St. Ambrose Forever Foundation board will evaluate each year’s applications and award scholarships based on leadership/service, financial need, school/parish involvement, extracurricular activities, and academics. Families who are selected are eligible for reconsideration in futures years; however, no special consideration will be given to previously awarded recipients.

The STAF Board works hard every year to grow the fund so that more students can find an easier financial path to the “St. Ambrose Experience.” This is possible through the donations and philanthropic commitment by those in this community.

Eligibility requirements:• Must be enrolled in St. Ambrose Catholic School for the 2019-2020 school year

• Must be in good financial standing with School Administration

• Must be an active parishioner at St. Ambrose Catholic Church

• Must be actively involved in St. Ambrose parish and school activities

• Recipients must disclose any additional scholarship offers. (When recipients receive additional scholarships, those additional scholarships will be reviewed in order to ensure that each student receives the full scholarship amount(s) that are due. The amount awarded under the St. Ambrose Forever Monsignor Bommarito Fund may be adjusted to avoid having a recipient's total award package exceed the Cost of Attendance.)

• Ineligibility: Relatives of the STAF Board members are ineligible to receive the scholarship award.

MathJam is a summer challenge experience for incoming students ages 10-14, designed to...Nurture mathematics interest in younger students,Introduce middle school students to advanced topics not covered in a school setting, andProvide hands-on, activity-based experiences that allow students to make connections between mathematics, science, art, and literature.Nominations and admission testing are not required for MathJam. Students should be interested in math exploration and score at the 90th percentile or higher on standardized tests. MathJam is a 2-week summer camp, either half- or full-day, offered in both June and July.A typical MathJam day for rising 10 and 11-year-olds consists of math enrichment in the morning, followed by “After” Math, an afternoon of fun that blends art and literature with math and science inspiration. MathJam for rising 7th and 8th graders is structured similarly, with morning courses designed to introduce the older students to topics not well covered in standard curricula. Some courses have prerequisites that limit participation to students who are qualified for the Elements program. Rising 7th and 8th grade students also have the option to test for entry into the Elements program, or may consider a week of Logic Bootcamp.

Elements coursework offers studies in advanced mathematics, based on the Elements of Mathematics series, to highly-talented middle school students. Courses include formal logic, along with a broadened and accelerated course of math that is very different than mathematics curriculum used in schools. Some schools even allow students to substitute participation in Project MEGSSS Elements program for their math requirement. The Intro to Elements program is a great summer enrichment choice for math-talented students, and a prerequisite to participation in after-school classes (described below). Many students who qualify for Elements have never experienced the challenge of grappling with difficult mathematics concepts and building the persistence to master such concepts. Student surveys indicate an improvement in students' intellectual abilities as a result of participation, including:•Development of self-discipline & study habits.•Better time management and organizational skills.•Transfer of logical problem-solving techniques to other academic areas.•A more positive approach to school.•Ability to participate in higher-level mathematics coursework during high school & college.Students who are nominated, and qualify based on our admissions test, are eligible to attend Intro to Elements, Project MEGSSS' premier two-week summer camp, with options to attend in either June or July. In the fall, they will be eligible to attend after school classes on a weekly basis at one of our locations in the St. Louis area. The Elements program is now also being offered as an after-school program in Rolla, Missouri, in cooperation with The Kaleidoscope Discovery Center; for more information about this location, click HERE.
