Ê LAST START—On July 6 vs. LAA, tied his career high with his 10th loss…lasted 4 IP, tied for his shortest start this season (also May 31 at KC)…did not record a strikeout, first time in his career doing that (as a starter) and the first Rays starter to do it since Alex Colome, May 16, 2015 at MIN…yielded 4 runs (1 unearned) in the 3rd, 2 unearned runs in the 4th and was replaced after starting the 5th going HR-BB-2B-BB…his line: L, 4 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 SO, 1 HR, 88 pit, 57 str.

Ê Has yielded 6 runs (or more) in 3 consecutive starts, first time in his career doing that and the first Rays pitcher to do so since Matt Garza from Sep 8-20, 2010.

Ê SNAP THE SKID—Is winless (0-6) over his last 9 starts, extending the longest losing streak of his career…it’s tied with Chris Archer’s cur-rent skid for the longest by a Ray this year, and both are the club’s lon-gest within a season (as a starter) since Jeremy Hellickson from May 21–July 13, 2012 (0-6)…is seeking his first win since May 16 at TOR.

Ê His .167 winning pct. is the lowest in the majors (STATS LLC)…his 10 losses are tied for 3rd in the majors behind TB Chris Archer (13) and SD/CWS James Shields (11).

Ê BEFORE & AFTER—Since the beginning of May, he has gone 1-7 with a 6.99 ERA (65.2-IP, 51-ER) in starts, including 7 starts of 5 IP or fewer…min. 50 IP, his .559 opp SLG is the highest in the AL over that span and his ERA is 3rd-highest to BAL Ubaldo Jimenez (8.74) and DET Anibal Sanchez (7.02)…this coming after he ranked among AL leaders for April in IP (34.2, 3rd), SO (41, 3rd), WHIP (0.69, 2nd) and opp avg. (.151, 1st).

Ê SAID ANOTHER WAY—A breakdown of his first 24 starts following his trade to the Rays (Aug 5, 2014–April 29, 2016) vs. his last 12

Ê First 24 GS: 9-6, 2.54 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 20 HR, .190/.244/.346 Ê Last 12 GS: 1-7, 6.99 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 15 HR, .322/.368/.559

Ê THE LONG BALL—Has yielded 20 HR, a career high (18, 2014) and T-6th in the AL…has allowed homers in 8 of his last 9 starts since May 21 (13 HR over that span)…seven times this season he’s yielded multiple homers, most such apps/starts in the majors.

Ê Has yielded a career-high-tying 4 HR vs. LHB (0 in 2015). Ê Since 2015, has yielded 31 HR in 167 IP for a 1.67 HR/9 IP ratio. Ê So far this year, 19.0 pct. of his hits (20 of 105) allowed have

been homers, highest rate in club history (min. 100 IP)…49.3 pct. of his runs allowed (33 of 67) have scored via the home run.

Ê FIRST HALF WRAP—Smyly and RH Chris Archer became the sec-ond pair of teammates in major league history to record 100 strikeouts

and 10 losses before the All-Star break…joined RH Clay Kirby (6-11, 126-SO) and RH Steve Arlin (8-11, 115-SO) of the 1972 Padres.

Ê Only one other pitcher in major league history (and none in the AL) had as high an ERA (5.47) with as many strikeouts (108) at the All-Star break—COL Pedro Astacio (5.67, 109) in 1999.

Ê His 20 HR before the All-Star break tied for the most in club his-tory, along with Esteban Yan in 2000.

Ê STRIKEOUTS—Ranks among AL leaders in SO (108, 10th), SO/9 IP (9.69, 5th) and SO/BB (4.00, 9th)…opponents miss on 27.0 percent of their swings, 6th in the AL…is 7 strikeouts shy of 500 SO for his ca-reer…has gotten strikeouts with the fastball (52), curveball (36), cutter (13) and changeup (7), according to PITCHf/x.

Ê Has recorded double-digit strikeouts 3 times this season, one of six AL pitchers to make that claim (David Price, Chris Archer, Justin Verlander, Matt Shoemaker and Rich Hill).

Ê THE BIG INNING—Ten times this season he has allowed at least 3 runs in a single inning…only two pitchers in the majors have done that more often: PHI Aaron Nola (11) and PIT Jeff Locke (11)…other pitch-ers to do it 10 times are CIN Alfredo Simon, KC Edinson Volquez, ARI Patrick Corbin and SEA Wade Miley…he only did this 7 times in 395 career innings prior to this season.

Ê HOME vs. ROAD—Both wins have come on the road (April 24 at NYY, May 16 at TOR) despite a 6.02 ERA, 3rd highest in the AL…averaging 6.88 R/9 IP in run support on the road (52.1-IP, 40-RS), 4th in the AL, while his 1.50 R/9 IP at home is the lowest in the majors.

Ê Is the second Ray in club history to start the season 0-6 at home and is one shy of tying Rolando Arrojo’s club record (0-7, 1999).

Ê His 5 SO on July 10 at BOS tied his career high as a reliever (also Aug 25, 2015 vs. MIN) and tied for the most by a Rays reliever so far this season…threw 44 pitches, his season high as a reliever…marked the third time in his last 4 apps (since June 30) he had a scoreless app of at least 2 IP.

Ê Both his losses have come over his 7 relief apps but has a 2.30 ERA (15.2-IP, 4-ER) in relief this year, compared to a 4.75 ERA in relief last year.
