Last week I attended the Wheatbelt CRC Strategy Day at Quairading. 43 CRCs from the Wheatbelt region were represented. The day was facilitated by Wheatbelt Business Network and was a follow up to two workshops that were held in Narembeen last year. The Linkwest CEO and the Chair of the Linkwest committee were present. Firstly we had a presentation by a team from Census who talked about CRCs being an Enabling Partner for 2020. This is in the very early stages of planning, but it does look promising for another income stream in the future. We were introduced to Justin from Regen WA. This comprises the West Australian Regenerative Farmers Network which identifies and supports the adoption of on-farm sustainability practices. They are looking at utilising CRCs to coordinate events and activities for them. For more information on Regen WA see https://www.perthnrm.com/programs/sustainable-agriculture/west- australian-regenerative-farmers-network We also had an update from Caroline Robinson in regards to AEC and WAEC service delivery as an income stream. Some centres were used for early polls this year and all training for the AEC was done in CRCs. The Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLC addressed the group and cleverly defected many questions. The good news she delivered though was that there is money locked away in the budget for CRCs for the next four years. In the afternoon session we were asked to identify any other engagement opportunities for service delivery which Caroline through her role at WBN will investigate. A great day of networking and learning from other CRC coordinators and committee members.

We continue to be busy at the CRC hosting events and workshops ,

submitting and acquitting grants and making sure our customers are

provided with a high quality service.

Last week I attended the Wheatbelt CRC Strategy Day at Quairading.

43 CRCs from the Wheatbelt region were represented. The day was

facilitated by Wheatbelt Business Network and was a follow up to two

workshops that were held in Narembeen last year. The Linkwest CEO

and the Chair of the Linkwest committee were present. Firstly we had a

presentation by a team from Census who talked about CRCs being an

Enabling Partner for 2020. This is in the very early stages of planning,

but it does look promising for another income stream in the future.

We were introduced to Justin from Regen WA. This comprises the West

Australian Regenerative Farmers Network which identifies and supports

the adoption of on-farm sustainability practices. They are looking at

utilising CRC’s to coordinate events and activities for them. For more

information on Regen WA see

We also had an update from Caroline Robinson in regards to AEC and

WAEC service delivery as an income stream. Some centres were used

for early polls this year and all training for the AEC was done in CRC’s.

The Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLC addressed the group and cleverly

defected many questions. The good news she delivered though was

that there is money locked away in the budget for CRCs for the next

four years.

In the afternoon session we were asked to identify any other

engagement opportunities for service delivery which Caroline through

her role at WBN will investigate.

A great day of networking and learning from other CRC coordinators

and committee members.

CLUE: It is not far from the CRC

Congratulations to Karl Keller who won the chocolate frog

for this picture. It was at the Kondinin Hospital and Karl had helped Georgina paint some of this

mural, including the man’s shirt.

Trainee Update

As written in last month’s newsletter we were successful in receiving a grant through the

Regional Traineeship Grant Program. We have also been informed that a new Employer

Incentive Scheme has been recently announced which will see a business receive a base

payment of up to $8 500 for employing a trainee. The scheme will be effective from July 1st.

We have therefore decided to defer the advertisement for the trainee position until later in June.

A package has currently been developed, with a few adjustments to be made and committee

approval to be sought.

Neighbourhood Breakfast 8th May 2019

Neighbourhood Centre Week was celebrated at Kondinin this year with our

Neighbourhood Breakfast catering for the breakfast needs of our community.

This year’s theme was ‘Bringing people together from your neighbourhood to

your nation.’ We were fortunate to receive a grant from Linkwest and supported

by Lotterywest to put this event on.

The morning started early for some of us as Steve and Sacha organised the

BBQ and the tables and chairs whilst Marie, Jan, Rowena and myself started

setting up the tables and getting the breakfast underway. Chef Steve had the

bacon and eggs ready for the first diners just after 7.00am. Also on offer were

fruit, yoghurt, muesli, toast, juice, tea, coffee and milo. A steady stream of com-

munity members and visitors enjoyed the sunshine outside or the beautifully

set table inside whilst eating their breakfast.

Thirty three people in total attended the breakfast. A huge thanks to Steve for

cooking the breakfast; Sacha for organising the tables and chairs; Jan, Rowena

and Marie for helping to keep everything in line and the wonderful people who

came for breakfast.

Healthy Lunchbox Workshop

21st May 2019

Five participants joined Ellen, Health Promotion Officer and Megan, dietician, both

from Southern Wheatbelt Primary Health Service at the Healthy Lunchbox

workshop. During this workshop we were guided through some important

considerations when packing lunch, including keeping food safe and what to

choose to satisfy the Australian Guide to healthy eating.

Some very handy worksheets were given out to participants including ‘Pick & Mix,’

‘Snack Attack’ and ‘Packed with Goodness - lunchbox ideas’ It was then time for

the hands-on part where mini pizzas using English muffins were used as the base

and cooked in an electric frypan and banarama muffins were made. Of course

there was then time for tasting the creations. All decided that these tasted

delicious and were not very hard to make.

Thank you to Kondinin Primary School who generously paid for any parents that

attended the workshop.
