One G-d, One People, One Country: The Struggle for Unity & Identity in Ancient Israel
Instructor: Yossi Afek, Jewish Educator
The Bible tells a tumultuous, but straightforward story about how the people of Israel were saved by G-d from Egypt - the land of slavery. Under Moses, the ex-slaves were convened at Mount Sinai, received the Torah, made a covenant with G-d and turned Canaan the land of Israel. In the land of Israel, the newly formed nation established Ethical Monotheism: one G-d, one people, one country. Reading between the lines though, in the Bible itself, can reveal a shockingly different picture. This is a story of myth and reality. 6 Fridays • 10:30 - 11:45am Oct. 20, 27, Nov. 3, Dec. 1, 8, 15
