A gypsy girl, Salud, and her grandmother eagerly
await the arrival of her lover, Paco. He is well off
and has promised to marry her but he is late to
arrive. When he does appear he declares his love and
faithfulness, to the approval of Salud and her
grandmother. But then her Uncle arrives with the
news that Paco will tomorrow marry a rich girl. The
reception for the marriage of Paco and Carmela is in
progress at Carmela’s home. Salud appears with her
grandmother and they observe the party before Paco
notices that they are there. The gypsies enter,
offering to entertain the party. After dancing, Salud
turns on Paco and declares his treachery before
collapsing dead at his feet.

A boy is rude to his mother and is scolded by her. In
his room he rages, smashing his toys, the teapot and
more. As his anger subsides he drops into the
armchair, which promptly comes to life. His
homework too comes to life, taking the shape of an
old man and a chorus of numbers. The bedroom
becomes a garden, populated by animals and plants
which the child has previously hurt. He attempts to
make friends but they shun him. In his loneliness he
calls for his mother, which causes the animals to
attack him. The fight stops when a squirrel is injured.
Noticing the blood, the boy bandages the animal, his
kindness causing a change of heart amongst the
angry creatures. They carry him back to his house
where he is reunited with his mother.
