The weather was against us for a lot of the day but our students ignored this to produce some excellent swims. Most of our students finished in the top 4 of their event and we had some extremely exciting relay finishes. As a result, Mulwaree is sending 19 students to the Regional Swimming Carnival in Dapto. The school finished an impressive 3 rd on the overall point score behind strong teams from Karabar and Yass and Madeline Charles was named the 14 years girls age champion. Congratulations to all of the students who competed on the day and thank you to all of the parents and friends who provided transport and supported the team so well. Good luck to all of the swimmers competing at Regional! Miss Cooke & Mr Armstrong. Selamat datang, Elly!! Welcome Elly!! Last Tuesday, PhD candidate Ellen Kent from the Australian National University, visited our Year 8 Indonesian Class. Elly contacted Mr Wardle at the end of last year seeking his support to initiate a friendly relationship with a school in Yogyakarta, located in Central Java. Elly is promoting the idea of ―Teman Gambar‖ – ―Drawing Friend‖ - where children from Yogyakarta send us drawings of representations of their city and country and our students send representations of Australia and our city of Goulburn. Our students are very excited to be a part of this project which undoubtedly will assist in their language acquisition. They are looking forward to Elly returning to our school each Tuesday morning during Term 1 and participating in this unique venture.

Polished Performer On Tuesday 19th February, Year 12 student Jakub Nabaglo competed in the Lions‘ Youth of the Year Quest against Zoe Caldwell and Marley Bourke-O‘Neale from Trinity Catholic College and Felicity Moran from Canberra Grammar. In the 45th year of

the contest, the competitors delivered two impromptu speeches. The first addressed the influence that music has on youth. The second tackled the huge amount of money and sponsorship in sport that is influencing the use of performance enhancing drugs. Jakub performed magnificently and the passion displayed, particularly in his prepared speech about the success of education in Finland, ensured that he won the public speaking section. His performance at interview, conducted on the previous Sunday, guaranteed his position as overall winner of the competition. Jakub then competed in the Regional Final last Sunday. Once again, he delivered two excellent impromptu speeches. In the first, he suggested a number of changes that he would make in Australia for the benefit of young people, and in the second, he spoke about whether he considered public forums to be a talk fest or an opportunity for responsible actions. In another outstanding performance, Jakub was a clear winner, outclassing his opponents Gabrielle Franklin from Nowra Anglican College, Tiana Peden from Goulburn High School and Benjamin Wylie from Yass High School. As a result of his presentation at interview held earlier in the morning, Jakub also won the overall competition in the Regional Final. Congratulations on your success, Jakub, and we wish you well in the District Final which will be conducted on Saturday, 16th March in Merimbula.

WARNING: Please do not park in the bus bay and ‗No Parking‘ area when picking up students.

Work progresses slowly on our major building projects. Nevertheless, we have use of the COLA and with the rain that does seen ongoing, this is an absolute bonus. I would like to thank the P & C for their determination to make sure that our students have the shelter from rain and sun that they deserve. Their contribution to

the COLA has been $80,000.00 with the government paying $65,000.00. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of parents supporting the school. Mulwaree On Show is almost upon us (22/3/13) and the COLA will provide shelter where needed. This is a wonderful showcase of the school and I encourage you all to join in and come along to enjoy a very positive evening. Mr Lieschke, Mrs Penning and Mr Meader lead a group of staff members in this endeavour and I thank them for their work. Congratulations are in order for our Swimming Team. They gained 3rd place at the Zone Carnival with many great achivements from our swimmers. Cross Country is next and we generally perform very strongly in this area. Congratulations to Jakub Nabaglo on winning the Lions Youth of the Year at both Regional and District levels. His performance is reported in this newsletter but he represented the school with distinction and moves on to the State finals. We wish him the greatest success. News to hand! Owen Perkins, Year 11, has submitted his own play entitled ―Everybody Loves You Know‖ to the Young Playwrights project. His play has been selected as one of 8 to be developed and performed. What a great achievement. Congratulations to Owen and to Ms McAleer for her support of Owen. M Purcell Principal
