It is hard to believe that Term 3 is already drawing to an end. Time is certainly flying, however there is still so much happening in the next 3 weeks. Literacy and Numeracy Week The Art Show is open this afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm. I encourage all of our families to find some time to pop in and see all of the beautiful and creative work that is on display in the art room. I know from speaking to the students throughout the school they are extremely proud of all of their creations. Also running this afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm is the Book Fair. There is a huge range of books on display in this year’s Book Fair and families can come and browse and purchase this afternoon. Book Fair will also be open every other morning and afternoon before and after school this week from 8:15-8:45am and 3:15-3:45pm. Our students have been conducting their class Spelling Bee competitions last week and our School competitions will be taking place tomorrow at assembly. As always, we welcome all of our families along to assembly to cheer on our finalists. Don’t forget that Thursday is our Dress Up Day. The theme is for the students to dress up as a character from a favourite book of theirs. I have heard lots of great ideas from students and staff about who they are dressing up as. We will begin our day with a parade on Thursday at 9am and invite our school community to come along to see all of the amazing costumes on the basketball courts. Don’t forget that we have our World of Maths Incursion happening on Friday. The cost of this incursion is $6.00. If you have not paid for this great learning experience as yet, please come to the office or send in the money before Thursday to avoid missing out. Lions Club Public Speaking Competition As part of their learning program, all students in the Middle and Senior School researched and compiled their own individual speech which they presented to their class. Class winners then competed in our school level competition to see who would move on to represent our school at the next level. In an extremely high quality and very competitive competition, our Middle School winner was Matthew Dingle and our Senior School winner was Jayda Tannahill. Matthew and Jayda will be competing this Wednesday night and we wish them the very best. Father’s Day breakfast – thank you A big crowd once again was in attendance for our Father’s Day breakfast on Friday morning. It was great to see so many of our dads and other special adults here in the school sharing a special breakfast with our students. Mrs Ward was thrilled with how many people came across and visited the Art Show also. A massive thank you again must go to the Rotary Club of Koo Wee Rup and Lang Lang who arrived bright and early and completed all of the cooking for our breakfast. We are again so grateful for their support. Thank you also to Parents and Friends for their continued support in the running of our breakfast. It is such another great community event for our school. Congratulations to our winners of the raffle. They were Crue Powell (FC), Cianna Vanderheyden (4/5C) and Hayden Giles (Rotary Club). Parents and Friends Footy Day The last day of term will be our Footy Day where students will get to dress up in their favourite colours (hopefully there will be lots of black and white!!). Canteen will not be running on this day, however students will be able to pre-order a special footy lunch. A separate notice will be coming home later this week around how to order lunches for this day. Student Attendance Notifications As mentioned in previous newsletters there have been some changes to the Department of Education Attendance requirements of schools. If your child is marked as absent and you haven’t made contact with the school, you will receive an SMS alert from the school. If you do receive an SMS alert please reply directly to that number, this automatically updates our records of your child’s absence from school. If you have more than one child away, we ask that you reply for each child in a separate message so that attendance records are updated for each child. Parents are still able to make contact with the school prior to the start of the school day via the Flexibuzz app and the school email address [email protected]. If you have made contact with the school prior to the start of the day through one of our preferred options, this will be marked, and you will not receive the SMS alert. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

The Parents & Friends are once again organising a Silver Coin Drive to raise funds to support our school. The coin drive is beginning on Monday 3rd of September & finishing on Wednesday 19th of September. This year there will be 2 winning classes. The winners will be determined based on the highest amount in value raised and also which class collects the highest weight in coins. Each winning class will win a class lunch of hot chips!

We are now asking for all of our families to check in the consoles of your cars and all of those other places you find loose change. Contributions to your class containers can be made directly to the office or can be brought into the classroom. Funds raised during this fundraiser will support the purchase of more equipment for our outdoor inclusive space as well as a contribution going towards the Resilience Project’s ‘Save the Children Fundraiser’. As always with our fundraising efforts at KWRPS, we are always trying to not only support our own school, but also show our students how to show empathy in supporting others in need.

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. All of the students showed a great deal of interest and curiosity in the places we were lucky enough to visit. (In the past week or two, they have shown a continued interest as the change in the leadership of the Liberal Party of Australia has played out!) The children were an absolute pleasure to take on this fantastic camp, and we all had a fabulous time away! The Senior Teachers would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful support of Nathan Jagoe, Beth Wasley and Jess DeMarchi who took time away from their families to accompany the Senior School to Canberra. We also wish to acknowledge the Australian Government who assist families in meeting the cost of the camp, by contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Can you write two paragraphs describing an animal without using the letter ‘e’? If you think this task is impossible – check out these amazing paragraphs that were written by some of our clever senior students!!

Dolphins

Dolphins can jump high, swimming, diving and singing all in a row. Blowing out air. Gliding and rising to the top. Smooth skin, dull in colour. Fast, flippy and splashing.

Happy grins and having fun. Doing tricks and lots of flips. Showing off in foam. Fishy food, tasty and salty. Always swimming in packs. Amazing mammals of H2O. Dolphins so cool.

Fox

A fox is a small animal, omnivorous, mammal of flat skull, upright triangular auditors, slightly bottom up snout and a long bushy tail. It looks for food in its path; food in farms, hills, huts and trashcans allows it to stay living. During its hunt for food a fox will do many things to nourish it. A full day of hunting and chasing will put it to lay.

Dog

Dogs can play playfully. Dogs can run fast and fun to play with. Dogs play with a ball and roll in the mud. Most dogs can go to puppy school to train. Dogs can go outdoors to run around.

Dogs go outdoors to go for a walk. Dogs could run away but most dogs stay and do not run away. Dogs can train by human or by puppy school. Most dogs do not go to school. Puppy dogs might go to dog school. Who knows?

Frog

I found a frog in my backyard. It was swimming in my pool. That frog was brown and that frog had a big mouth.

I think it was chomping on a fly. That frog had many a fly to chomp on at our farm as it has a many a fly on our farm on hot days. Frogs can grow big on our farm.
