Hothersall Lodge Here is the slightly delayed school newsletter, which was not published on Friday due to several staff being away on the Y6 residential. Y6 had a fabulous week, having lots of fun with their friends and meeting the physical challenges demanded of them by some of the more adventurous activities. I think this is probably the nicest Y6 group we have taken away for quite some years. Thank you children and thank you to the staff who accompanied them, especially Mr D who was there all week! See Twitter for some great photos. Bog-Eyed Jog Well done to every child who jogged in the rain and every parent, fried or relative who sponsored them. Together you made a massive impact and we raised a total of £2,019. Six pupils won prizes for generating the most sponsorship: Noah H Reception - £111.00 Francesca Year 3 - £91.00 Felicity Year 1 - £89.00 Gabriella Reception - £80.00 Max Reception - £73.00 Ciaran Reception - £67.00 Amazing – thank you! Monday 27 th June 2016 Proposed Strike Action You may be aware from the media that NUT members are striking on 5 th July over teachers’ increased workload and changes to the curriculum and assessment. At the time of going to press, none of our staff intend to take strike action so there will be no disruption to our school day. However, a letter will be sent out to all parents next week which has been written jointly by local primary headteachers’ group, of which I am a member. In the letter we explain the reasons behind the strike and our concerns over the government’s changes and planned changes to the education system which have unfortunately made the last twelve to eighteen months especially hard and at times very frustrating for school pupils and staff. MUSIC CONCERT Please join us this Wednesday at 9:15 am for a musical treat. All the children who have learned an instrument this year have been offered the chance to play to an audience of pupils and parents and impress us with their skills and talents. We look forward to the children’s performances in flute, clarinet, saxophone and keyboard and we hope lots of parents will be able to join us. Summer Fair & Circus What a fabulous afternoon’s family entertainment we had! Thank you to the organising committee and to all who supported the event. Your generosity enabled us to raise £2,324. New Teacher You should by now all have received a separate letter informing you of the appointment of Ms Sarah Lewis to the post of Y5 Class Teacher for September. Please ask at the office if your copy did not reach you.
