MONASH UNIVERSITY STAFF: NTEU WANTS TO PARTNER WITH YOU
Here’s some issues that the Monash branch is already working on which you can be involved in:
Anti-bullyingNTEU secured a more independent investigation process for bullying complaints in the new EA. NTEU delegates did a day of training recently to plan responses to the growing culture of workplace bullying. Short courses will be rolled out in 2015, guidance on your rights will be made available to members and we will try different ways to collectively tackle inappropriate behaviour, including through the health and safety network. If you want to help bring about change in your workplace, contact us at [email protected]
Workloads Under the new EA all workload models must be revised through a collegial process to specify various workload factors, such as research metrics. NTEU members have formed an academic workload committee
to review and improve different models. Our professional staff officers will utilise the steps in the EA to guide professional staff to raise concerns about their workloads. If you want to be involved, contact NTEU at [email protected]
Having a say in the future of your universityWhile NTEU is campaigning to block the government’s cuts to higher education, at the local level we are taking steps to ensure the voice of staff is heard when decisions are being made about resources and jobs. We met with the new Vice Chancellor recently and we are regularly involved in consultation around workplace changes where staff views should be considered and negative impacts on jobs and careers minimised.
If you’re a union member, then contact NTEU to be more active on issues that matter to you. If you’re not a member yet, fill out the form on reverse or go to www.nteu.org.au

A better workplace will not be delivered by the new Monash University Enterprise Agreement (EA). This may be an odd statement coming from the union whose members just spent a lot of time, effort and resources negotiating the new EA. What NTEU has learnt from experience is that a better workplace is only possible when staff work together with their union to collectively take up the benefits that an EA can offer.
