Foreword...It seems hard to believe that 55 years ago this May, the very first Monarch watersoftener was sold. My father, the founder of Monarch Water, had the foresight toinstall a softener to protect a steam boiler. At that time, water softener sales werefew and far between, but now we estimate that in excess of half a million homes andproperties in the UK enjoy the many benefits a water softener will bring.

Times have changed considerably in these 55 years, where we have gone from alocalised (Norfolk & Suffolk) company to arguably one of the largest water softenercompanies in the UK.

We have worked hard to ensure our softeners have stood the test of time forreliability and efficiency. In fact, we believe we have the UK’s longest lasting domesticsoftener still working tirelessly for over 44 years* giving the owners that ‘five star’soft water life style and protection. It’s one of the reasons we can give a 7-year parts& 2-year labour guarantee on all our Monarch and Plumbsoft domestic softeners.

Permanent limescale protection

Every household in the UK has a form of stored water, be it tanks in the roof, the heat exchanger in your combi-boiler or anunvented/pressurised system. Other limescale control devices (LCDs) offer a temporary relief to the effects of hard water whenwater is stored, lasting only a few hours.

HOW IT WORKSWater contains two main types of hardness ions that cause scale.Monarch’s CBT resin is the only one that treats both, the Cations and the Anions in water.The scale causing ions (dissolved limescale) pass through a bed of food grade ceramic beads. Theseceramic beads convert the ions into non-scale causing crystals that flow harmlessly through yourplumbing system and end up down the drain.The crystals in the water are both non-scale forming whilst also descaling, offering many benefits to the homeowner in its performance.These special crystals once created (permanent), cannot form as hard scale on surfaces including heating coils and elements,fittings, or the inside of pipes etc.

CRYSTALSBy-product of Scaleout XP’s operationIn areas with high levels of water hardness, the crystals may show themselves as a white residue(soft scale) after water has evaporated. Did you know?

• Every UK gallon has 4.546 litres, but a US gallon only has 3.785 litres.

• 1psi water pressure is generated by approx. 2' in height (feet head). Therefore a water tank 30' above the ground, generates 15psi, and 15psi is approx. 1 bar in water pressure.

• 1 degree Clark (water hardness measurement) is approx. 14.3ppm (parts per million); and ppm and mg/l (milligrams per litre) are the same measurement.

• In every litre there is 1000 millilitres (ml), which is the same as 0.22 UK gallons, which is actually 1.76 pints.

• In every cubic metre of water there is 1000 litres, and 1000 litres is equal to 220 gallons.

• That to calculate the volume of a tube, its: (radius cm x radius cm) x 3.142 x height cm / 1000 = volume as litres
