PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel,

centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit.

We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all.

Annunciation Parish Website: www.annunciationparishabq.org FROM THE PASTOR JAN. 27, 2013 CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK This week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Catholic Schools are an added value for our nation. Because of our traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates, sup-ported by our strong moral values, Catholic Schools and our graduates make a significant con-tribution to American society. Catholic Schools provide a high level of service to local commu-nities because of the many service projects students undertake. Giving back to the community and helping others are values instilled in every Catholic School student. Our schools give solid, spiritual foundations for students to succeed in life, serving in government, industry, business, nonprofit, educational and other fields. We are proud of Annunciation School for being a shining example of just these values and for promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Remember when you use the green envelope that you help our stu-dents who are in financial need to remain in a Catholic school. God bless Annunciation School and all of our Catholic Schools. ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2013

Many of you will have already received a letter from the Archbishop requesting your support for the 2013 Annual Catholic Appeal entitled “Faith is Our Gift to Share”. When you receive this letter with your personalized ACA pledge form, please make a generous gift to help sustain the ministries, pro-grams and services provided by the Archdiocese to all parishes and to those in need. We are grateful for your support for last year’s campaign, which brought in $283,580 with the $145,000 pledge to the Archdiocese fulfilled, leaving the parish a balance of $138,580 for the rebate. As you know, we have a $300,000 pledge to Catholic Charities for the building of the Children’s Learning Center which we

are paying at $60,000 a year for 5 years. Using our ACA rebates, we have paid two installments and have three more to go. This past year 630 of our parish’s 2000 plus families contributed to the ACA producing an average gift of $450. As we reflect on the 2013 theme of “Faith is Our Gift to Share” let us be mindful that one way of practicing faith sharing is through almsgiving. We will begin our in-pew solicitation next weekend when you can bring your pre-printed envelopes or use one available in the pew. This year, let us strive to get every family involved in pledging to do a little more to grow our participation in the Annual Catholic Appeal.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE Saturday, Feb. 2nd is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple of Jerusalem. As such, it is the annual World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. As Jesus was consecrated to the Father in the Temple, we honor all those who consecrate their lives to Christ in and through the Church. Let us pray for all of our religious women and men as well as all those in the lay consecrated life. They give them-selves to God so that we might all benefit from their prayerful intimacy with the Lord. May many more respond to the Lord’s call to religious and consecrated life and may those who have responded persevere in their vocation unto eternity! VISITING DOMINICAN SCHOLAR The Dominican Ecclesial Institute is bringing Fr. Allan White, OP from England to speak on “Theology with a Paint-brush”. Fr. White will focus on the works of masters like Blessed Fra Angelico to teach spiritual truths through Catholic art. Join us on Wed., Jan. 30th at 6:30 p.m. in St. Bakhita Hall for who should prove to be an inspiring presentation.

RETROUVAILLE Are you married to a stranger? Do you feel alone in your marriage? Do you argue or have you just stopped talking to each other? Do you dread going home? Does talking about it only make matters worse? Retrouvaille, which is French for “to find again”, has helped countless couples experiencing marital difficulties at all levels including disillusionment and deep misery find a new path together. For confidential information about registering for the program beginning with a weekend on February 15-17, call 890-3495 in Albuquer-que or 800-470-2230 or visit the web site at www.HelpOurMarriage.com.

► Caregivers Support Group is a faith-sharing venue for parishioners who are the primary caregivers for

family, friends, or relatives. “As Christians, caretaking is part of our life’s work. It is a

Gospel imperative. It should come naturally to us. Except that sometimes, it doesn’t.

”(Marci Alborghetti, “Care for Caretakers-Refreshing Body and Soul”). This monthly

meeting for sharing experiences, encouraging one another, and praying for sick relatives,

is a “welcome break” from the challenging “daily demands of loving those in our care”.

The group meets on the last Tuesday of the month, at 6:00-7:00PM in St. Francis Hall. Please ask Sr.

Cristina for more details.

► Women’s Guild Mardi Gras will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, starting with hors d’oeurves at 6:00PM, in the Community Center. The WG Telephone Committee will call members about what to bring for the potluck dinner. This gathering is by invitation only.

► Forty Days For Life Annunciation parishioners are encouraged to participate in the prayerful and

peaceful vigil in front of Planned Parenthood on San Mateo Blvd. The dates are: Wednes-days, February 13, March 6 and March 20, 2013. Respect Life Committee will have sign-ups on designated weekends. This will be an announcement later. Please mark your calendars with the above dates.

► Little Rock Sacred Scriptures Study (LRSS) Spring session will be from February 13

to March 20, 2013 for the 9:30-11:30AM class with Rose Fernandez, at St. Bakhita Hall. The Tuesday class will be from February 12 to March 19, at 7:00-9:00PM, in St. Francis Hall. The topic is “Parables of the Kingdom Part Two”. This study focuses on the par-ables unique to Matthew, and those developed by Luke. The parables offer a glimpse into the kingdom of God, and invite us to think in new and fresh ways. The study guide costs $7.50. We will use the same commentary book we used in the Fall session. Please get the material from Mary Agnes in the parish office. Thank you.

► Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Lenten Rice Bowl will be a parish-wide campaign starting this

year 2013. Rice Bowl donation boxes will be distributed after all the Masses on Ash

Wednesday, February 13. They will be available, thereafter, on a table in the church

vestibule. Please use them in your home, in order to practice prayer, fasting, and alms-

giving in a way that helps our brothers and sisters in need here and around the world.
