On February 22, 2008 the

Kenosha Area Chamber of

Commerce proceeded with a soft-

launch of its new website, www.

kenoshaareachamber.com. This

new website, sponsored by First

Banking Center, Kenosha County

and Platinum Systems, will provide

businesses, community members

and visitors with information about

members, membership and the

Kenosha Area. The new website

features a business directory

allowing visitors to the site to

search by business name, business

category and keywords. New to this

website is an online membership

application, which the Chamber

staff hopes will make applying for

membership easier for everyone.

Website visitors will also be able

to download registration forms for

different Chamber events, such as

Regional Connections. There are

other new features of this website

that will make it more useful for all

visitors; there is a larger “About Us”

section with a list of Board Members

and contact information for the

Chamber office, there is also an

extensive “Membership Benefits” list

that will members and prospective

members to see all of the

benefits of membership

that is available.

As this is a soft-launch

of the website, there

is still work to be done

and kinks to be worked

out. The Chamber

would appreciate any

comments, suggestions

and feedback from

members and site

users. “This is a great

opportunity for the

membership to help

us clean up our database as well.

Businesses often forget to inform the

Chamber of new phone numbers,

fax numbers or websites. We hope

that members will do a search for

their business and check to make

sure that all of the information we

have is accurate,” Stephanie Phillips,

executive director. Members can

send us their updated contact and

business information by downloading

an Information Update form on the

website in the Membership category

and faxing the corrected information

to the Chamber office.

With the completion of the 2008 Bank of Kenosha/Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce Expo I wish to extend our gratitude to all the committee members, exhibitors and supporters that made the event a huge success. Over 6000 people attended this year’s Expo, making it one of our most successful events in the last several years.

On June 13th, we will be holding our Annual Meeting at the Best Western Harborside. We invite all our members and partners to attend this meeting to hear a recap of 2008 and our plans for 2009. Our ever-popular Beautifi cation Awards will be presented as well as Ambassador of the Year, and our fi rst ever Kenosha County “Best Place to Work” award! e “Best Place to Work” award is open to any member of the chamber, and nomination forms must be completed by employees. Watch the mail and email blasts for nomination information.

In addition, we are working on revising the membership dues structure. Many chambers charge a fl at rate per member, with escalating dues according to employee counts. What your chamber is working on is “value-based” dues packages. We are carefully analyzing all programs and benefi ts and packaging them with annual dues in a more effi cient way. Our goal is to have our members really only write one check per year!

Of note on the programming front, two programs are beginning to pick up some momentum. Our Kenosha Area Hispanic Business Networking group has now been meeting for six months. is group is specifi cally charged with supporting Hispanic owned businesses through networking and best practice sharing. We have had many new faces at each meeting and look forward to growing this group and off ering some great events.

Fuel Kenosha (formerly Young Professionals of Kenosha) continues to move forward. Representatives from the chamber board met with the leadership of Fuel Milwaukee to brainstorms ways in which the two groups may collaborate under the Milwaukee 7 eff ort. We are in planning stages of our fi rst event to occur in late June. If you are not receiving email blasts about this program, please let me know and I will add you to our email list.

On the Business to Business front— two new opportunities are coming up and both are fantastic ways to get your name out. We are resurrecting our print business directory – but now it will be geared more to your business-to-business marketing needs. e purpose is to encourage businesses to keep their business local – specifi cally with other chamber members. Advertising is available only to members and is likely to go fast.

We are also in planning stages of a new Business to Business Expo! Many you of you may recall this event from several years ago. We are in early stages, with hopes to have the event in early fall. Please let us know if you would like to get involved.

As with all events, sponsorships are a great way to get extra value for your investment. Title sponsorships carry the most bang for the buck. e chamber is currently seeking title sponsorships for the Expo, Fishing Outing and the Business to Business Expo. Please contact me if you have any interest in any level of event or program sponsorship.

Chamber of Commerce Foundation College Scholarship

Fund will be awarding $10,000 in scholarships to Kenosha

County residents graduating from high school pursuing

a full-time course of study at a college, university or

generous support of event sponsors TDS Metrocom, title

sponsor of the Annual Scholarship Golf Classic, and Jay-

Bee Collision Repair Center, raffle sponsor of the Great

Kenosha Raffle, the Foundation will be awarding four (4)

The Foundation awards scholarships to students that
